Purple Island is located in the northeast of Qatar, Bin Ghannam Island, popularly known as Purple Island. It’s an hour’s drive from Doha, near Al Khor city. The island is famous for its natural beauty and exotic flora and fauna.
According to the Qatar Museum, it was a place of transit, a temporary campsite for trade with Bahrain and was used by fishermen or pearl divers as early as the beginning of the 2nd millennium BCE

The island’s name comes from when it was the main site of the Kassite-controlled purple dye industry in the second millennium BC. Visitors can kayak through the mangrove or hike around the island, and camping is allowed onsite.

The best time to visit is between November to February as the weather is pleasant during this time. A wooden bridge connects the island with the mainland.
One has to come with water and food as there are no restaurant or other facilities on the island.
