D+C Development and Cooperation

D+C Development and Cooperation D+C Development and Cooperation is a website and
digital magazine on global development. D+C. Our journalism is fact-based and solutions-oriented.

The global magazine on international cooperation

D+C is for everyone who wants to go beyond the news cycle. We tell the stories others overlook and amplify the voices that are too often missing: authors from the Global South, including experts from civil society, academia and politics. Because we believe that only by listening to the world’s full diversity can we shape its future. We don’t just a

nalyse what has gone wrong – we explore how things can be made better. We show that sustainability and global development are about real change and aren’t just empty words. D+C has a worldwide reach, yet we connect directly with our audience on the ground. With daily updates, newsletters, an e-paper, an app and a strong social media presence, we ensure our stories reach the people and places where they matter most. Voices from around the world

From youth movements in East Africa to research institutes in Central America, from village communities in South Asia to the boardrooms of the World Bank: with contributions from more than 400 authors spanning all continents, D+C brings together voices from every corner of the globe. Our editorial team works closely with these contributors, ensuring that their voices are presented authentically and with the necessary cultural sensitivity and nuance. The result is journalism that does not gloss over differences, but instead makes diversity visible while connecting local realities with global debates. News for a better tomorrow

The future isn’t a distant concept; it’s something people work towards every day. From climate-resilient farming to anti-disinformation apps, local innovations fill the gaps when policy lags behind. These solutions may not make headlines, but they matter. They prove that change is possible – and that solutions know no borders. What works in Morocco may also inspire progress in Myanmar or Mexico. D+C brings these examples to light. Journalism that goes deeper than your feed

In an era of misinformation and polarised debate, D+C provides reliable, fact-checked journalism. We see it as our responsibility to foster a well-informed public and create space for dialogue based on evidence, empathy and mutual respect. A fairer, more sustainable future depends on journalism that is diverse, accurate and based on thorough research. That’s why we look beyond the headlines. We provide context, make connections and give space to different perspectives so that our readers can better understand the world and help shape its future. THE EDITORIAL TEAM

Freezing USAID had severe consequences for many: In South Africa, it restricted access to HIV therapies, particularly for marginalised people.

So now, there's a dangerous black market. 👇

US President Donald Trump’s decision to freeze foreign aid has restricted access to HIV therapies in South Africa, particularly for undocumented migrants and other marginalised people. A dangerous black market has sprung up as a result.

"Do not be seen as weak": This seems to be the number one rule for men, according to the narrow traditional idea of masculinity.

But both men and women could profit from less narrow gender roles. That's what we looked at in our latest Monthly. 👇

💰 A new type of oligarch is on the rise: What does this type want for himself and the world? 👇

The rich and powerful of today act differently than those of the past. A new kind of oligarch is on the rise: more authoritarian, less interested in stability, while highly interested in exerting power, be it through political positions or technological dominance. What kind of world order are we hea...

🇨🇲 Cameroon’s facing political stagnation. The country’s youth is disillusioned, and its institutions are incredibly weak. 👇

At 92, Paul Biya is the world’s oldest head of state. His re-election after 43 years in power reflects Cameroon’s political stagnation. The country’s youth is disillusioned, and its institutions are incredibly weak. Although no one has broken Biya’s record, this situation is not unique in th...

🇰🇪 “Everybody is scared of them": In Kenya's informal settlements people are scared of so-called "killer cops".

That's why some people are creating alternative forms of protection. 👇

In Kenya’s informal settlements, police violence has become routine. Now, local paralegals and communities are creating an alternative system of protection, helping residents to find justice and rebuild trust where the state has failed.

🤝 A friend in need is a friend indeed. While there are supposedly no friends in politics, autocrats support each other all the time.

These are their dirty tactics to stay in power. 👇

Autocracies work together worldwide to stay in power. They flood the public sphere with targeted disinformation in order to destroy democratic discourse and impose their own narrative on the world, as Anne Applebaum argues in her book “Autocracy, Inc.”.

Men suffer because of patriarchy too. If you thought they only profit, you might want to reconsider after reading this piece. 👇

Patriarchy grants men privileges, but it also comes with norms and expectations that inflict serious harm on their mental and physical health. Oluyinka Ojedokun, professor of psychology in Nigeria and South Africa, explains why it is in African men’s interests to actively participate in redefining...
