🪢 from clove hitch⁣ to constrictor hitch ⁣

✅ follow ⁣

✅ turn on post notifications ⁣

🤙🏼 Learn today how you can turn a clove hitch into a constrictor hitch.⁣

❓But what exactly is both and how do they differ?⁣

🗒 A clove hitch ⁣is useful for attaching a rope to an anchor and many other things. ⁣When tied around a carabiner, the load should pull on the end closest to its spine.⁣

Although the name clove hitch is given by Falconer in his Dictionary of 1769, the knot is much older, having been tied in ratlines at least as early as the first quarter of the sixteenth century.⁣

Typical use: Securing lines running along a series of posts, belaying, starting lashings, weak binding⁣

🗒 A constrictor hitch ⁣is a good effective binding „knot“. It is made similarly to a clove hitch but with one end passed under the other, forming an overhand knot under a riding turn. ⁣

Simple and secure, but keep in mind, this one can be difficult or impossible to untie once tightened.⁣

Typical use: for example, you can close the openings of sacks or bags. it is also very popular for some bushcrafting scenarios. A constrictor hitch can also be quite effective as improvised hose clamps or cable ties.⁣
