Nic and Chris from ZAHN were guests on Deutschlandfunk’s "Rock Et Cetera". They talked with Fabian Elsäßer about the creation of their new album ADRIA, why too many notes on the bass guitar are annoying, and mentioned their aversion to the spontaneity of jams. Felix comments: "This piece in all its relaxed, spacious and, dare I say, danceable form is probably the furthest we could come from the OG Zahn material. There’s a lot of interesting little things going on during the first three minutes and I’m very happy about the guitar fragments that sound wizard Jobst M. Feit brought to the table. And then the beat comes in and time loses its relevance and Schmuck just rolls and flows forever. Playing this song is like being in a warm bath with incense and candles all around and some Al Green on in the background. I swear I’ve seen audience members kissing during this. Alas, due to Zahn’s dysfunction of having to wreck every comfortable moment, we just have to hack the whole thing to pieces from the 06:40 minute mark onwards. We’re sorry!"

“Wonderful Life” presents a beautiful mix of eerie and dreamy. Its shoegazey ghostly tone and note choices throughout the beginning feel like the gothy ’80s party you always wanted to go to. An atmosphere that feels right out of a Stephen King film adaptation intro it’s hard not to feel the fall vibes easing in as you listen.

ZAHN’s Chris Breuer: "As big fans of BADALAMENTI's and CARPENTER's soundtracks, it was clear to us that sooner or later we would create a song that goes in this direction. Besides, we are getting old and no longer want to overstrain our instruments in every song. Idylle is the conclusion of our new, quite rocky record and is as unrocky as it can be."
This track features Eberhard Stockmann on saxophone, along with Fabian Bremer (AUA, VELCROS, RADARE), Peter Voigtmann (The Ocean Collective, Ex-Heads.), and Chris Breuer on synthesizers, Felix Gebhard on Bass VI, and Nic Stockmann on drums.

Berlin indie rock outfit Havemeyer recorded their debut album Slacker in one weekend in an old railway station near Berlin. Bringing years of experience in the German indie music scene together in one spontaneous moment of creation, Slacker musters a sound that is both spontaneous and calculated. Swim shows this conviction through and through.

The lines between underground and mainstream are blurring fast these days, and Berlin-based indie rock/post-punk formation Havemeyer are a prime example of this. «Headlines» could have been a contemporary Harry Styles joint with its characteristic guitar lines and evocative lyrics, but with Havemeyer it becomes a fresh dose of post-millennial angst feeding through jingly guitars and the soft glow of a late summer day. Pure bliss and forgetfulness in the face of a f**ked up world.

"I remember a somewhat strange meal in a dreary buffet restaurant where no music was playing, everyone was just sitting there quietly waiting to fill up their plates. At the tables, everyone was to themselves and mostly absorbed in their cell phones. It all seemed very unsociable and was not what I was looking for when I decided to leave my apartment. This video addresses the emptiness of having to deal with yourself alone. Trying to make the most of a situation after suffering from great loss."

Enveloping the listener with a mixture German corporate quotes, spoken-word and counter-point singing, Jolle cast the life of a post-industrial Arbeiter in a wild prog-garage rollercoaster that should appeal to any fan of rock that is both vicious as well as intricate. Wirtschaft Arbeit Technik is above all fun and catchy and the German lyrics aren’t as much an obstacle as an invitation to delve deeper into this world of cynicism, pastiche and unabashed self-pity.
