20 Seconds is ecstatic to announce the release of Issue 7, “The Medium.”
Available at the link in bio.
Issue 7 presents a collection of work by politically motivated artists consciously conjuring new narratives and new worlds through their own medium-specific renegotiations. These are not narratives capable of healing trauma, but they are efforts to contextualize it in the face of attempts to ignore the terror that continues to dominate the present.

We launched a Kickstarter campaign (link in bio) to raise funds to print 20 Seconds Issue 7. We’ve already raised more than €2,000. Our goal (and without hitting this target we will receive no money at all) is €3,000.
This is our most important issue thus far, it’s also the biggest and the most centred on politically uncompromising artists.
Why Now?
For more than four years, 20 Seconds Magazine has dedicated itself to quality long-form journalism in the arts, keeping the commitments we made when we launched the publication in January 2020. We’ve given a voice to emerging artists across the globe, published spotlights on pioneering artists left out of the history books and reported on community movements using art as a means of social and political resistance.
Since we launched 20 Seconds, a lot has happened that we didn’t expect. The Covid-19 pandemic broke out just months after Issue 1 was released, derailing more than just our plans to host a series of events to fundraise our future issues. In addition to the terror inflicted on Ukrainians, Russia’s invasion has disrupted logistics routes across the continent, increasing shipping, energy and paper prices, effectively doubling the cost to manufacture the magazine.
Taking all of this into account, 20 Seconds Magazine is committed to staying independent of institutions that are not willing to support a true freedom of expression.
That’s why we need the help of our community to get our latest issue over the line of completion and shipped around the globe to continue our conversation rooted in honesty, resistance and solidarity.
You can order 20S at the Kickstarter link in bio.

HYBRID INTERVIEW / 20(PARA)SECONDS (Issue 6)Featuring Lawrence English, Felicia Atkinson, Jol Thoms
In this hybrid interview we asked three artists who are involved in sound and publishing the same three questions on the topic of time.
Lawrence English (founder, Room40) explores the bending and morphing of time, often incorporating both stasis and motion. He views sound as a powerful medium for experiencing time and highlights its affective impact on us, both psychologically and physiologically, evoking unsteady sensations and operating on a liminal plane.
Felicia Atkinson (co-founder, Shelter Press) reflflects on the concept of music recordings as fossils and the profound gift of voices and sounds from deceased individuals, which can be sha- red with present and future generations. In her improvisations, she creates a sense of shared exploration: each sound, whether spoken, sung or played, materializes the transient nature of the moment.
Jol Thoms (founder, Radio Amnion) explores the idea of discon- tinuity in time and the necessity of thinking and preparing for deeper times. His projects aim to develop a loving relationship with the forces and elements of the Earth. Thoms contemplates the unknown and the potential impact of long-term cycles on the future, aiming to hear transformative sounds that can recharge imminent planetary bodies.

Excerpt: Metronome by Steph Holl-Trieu / 20(PARA)SECONDS (Issue 6)dear x,
you’re about to enter a sound being—the first song of timekeepers: metronome, a body of work concerned with mechanically regular modes of timekeeping; part of this being lives
inside your voice; some wouldn’t call it a metronome, but for it to become one you must pretend it is; you see it’s not untrue, because its heart is structurally identical to the heart
of the metronome—both run on clockwork technology…

Excerpt: Anna Jermolaewa / 20(PARA)SECONDS (Issue 6)These “slave clocks” were
once installed in train stations across Austria, the former Ger- man Democratic Republic, the Czech Republic and the Soviet Union. However, they now ser- ve as silent witnesses to their disconnection from the “master clock,” marking the moment of their demise. Although these clocks have lost their functiona- lity, the fifinal time they recorded immortalizes their transition into obsolescence, akin to the fate of failed states.

Excerpt: Disappearing Berlin by Marie-Therese Bruglacher / 20(PARA)SECONDS (Issue 6)DB19: Piety with Josh Johnson, Patrick Belaga, Thilo Garus, Cyril Baldy,Graziano Capitta & Nicole WalkerPhoto by: Julija Goyd
In a city filled with architectural wonders, some structures have become obsolete and face uncertain futures. DISAPPEARING BERLIN (2019–2022), a series of events that brings together artists, composers and performers, explores these forgotten spaces. From luxury shopping centres to vacant buildings, the artists breathe new life into these neglected places. Marie-Therese Bruglacher‘s remarkable endeavour, DISAPPEA- RING BERLIN, acts as a connective bridge, seamlessly merging di- verse temporal and presentational frameworks. With an intimate and introspective approach, Bruglacher invites us to embark on
a personal and diary-like expedition, spanning three editions of the project. Through the exploration of sound and performance, DISAPPEARING BERLIN confronts the enigmatic nature of time‘s evanescence within the architectural landscapes and sites of Berlin.

20 Seconds is a print-only magazine for experimental music and art. It’s built by and for writers, readers and photographers who feel that they’re not being challenged enough by what they’re reading and seeing.
But more importantly, 20 Seconds is about engaging with what’s relevant to us. As a community, we’re intrinsically wired to discuss, debate and share. Inspired by other publications proving that print is not dead and neither are honesty or independence, 20 Seconds Magazine is about documenting those expressions.
It’s also a dialogue; founded on fluidity. And the conversation is something we feel can last as long as the ink on the pages.
In response to the mundane programming, sponsored-content-dependent, stock-photo-generated presentations to which we all suffer, we propose a solution. Published twice annually, 20 Seconds will be a collection of original photography, longform journalism, poetry, interviews and more.
20 Seconds Magazine is not interested in stories for stories’ sake. Or in the same headshot flooding your devices in involuntarily advertised form. It is interested in bold art, fearless music and the real people behind it.
20 Seconds Magazine is independent of major advertising corporations and click-bait titles, but not of our readers. Without the financial support of our community, we cannot produce the type of quality, independent journalism and design that we want to contribute to our cultural landscape.
Adventurous music and art take risk. It can be wonderfully inclusive. That’s why we’re collaborating with our favourite photographers, poets, musicians, DJs and artists of all dispositions to articulate our perspective.
Together, we can succeed in exploring work that continues to intrigue and resist.
As a collection it will last a while, individually a lifetime. But definitely more than 20 Seconds.
