We continue our series of posts about interesting buildings in Berlin!
In the world of architecture, some buildings become symbols of their era over time. One of these is The Kreuzberg Tower. Designed by John Hejduk in 1987 for Berlin’s IBA housing program, which aimed to create housing for West Berlin residents, the Kreuzberg Tower is an iconic piece of postmodern architecture. With a 14-story central tower and two smaller wings, the building stands out with its neutral tones and bold green geometric shapes, doubling as balconies and sunshades.
In 2010, the architecture community united to protect this 1980s postmodern icon when a new owner attempted to alter its facade. Thanks to experts’ efforts, the facade was restored, preserving the unique legacy of this great architect.
Today, The Kreuzberg Tower is state-protected, serving as a reminder of bold architectural ideas and the importance of preserving them for future generations.
