Robert De Niro will play the president in a new Netflix series

Oscar winner Robert De Niro has signed on to star in the new Netflix show "Day Zero" (Day Zero). The project will be the first major series in the actor's career.

Netflix has not commented on the casting. According to Variety, De Niro will embody the former president of the United States under mysterious circumstances. Eric Newman ("Narcotics") and Noah Oppenheim ("Jackie") will produce the show. De Niro will also take on producing duties on the project.

The actor has already collaborated with Netflix on the production of Martin Scorsese's "Irishman" (pictured). Prior to Day Zero, he appeared on TV in HBO's Liar, the Great and Terrible, hosted several episodes of Saturday Night Live and played himself in an episode of Studio 30.

Next year, De Niro will reunite with Scorsese in the crime epic The Flower Moon Killers. He can now be seen on screen in the comedy "Amsterdam" by David O. Russell.

Netflix canceled "Midnighters Club" after one season

The horror series "Midnighters Club" will remain without a sequel. Streaming service Netflix has shut down the show after the first season.

Mike Flanagan's ("Haunted House on the Hill," "Midnight Mass") project came out in October and was about a group of terminally ill teenagers in a hospice who tell each other scary stories at night. The characters take an oath and promise each other that the first one who dies will come forward from the afterlife.

The series was based on the novel of the same name by Christopher Pike. The series starred Iman Benson, film Rigney, Ruth Codd, Samantha Sloane, Heather Langenkamp and others.

The protagonist of the film series will embark on a deadly tour on March 24, 2023.

John Wick will face his most dangerous enemies. He is hunted by the entire criminal world, and in his pursuit of freedom, the protagonist plans to get to those who give the orders, so he goes from New York City to Paris, Berlin and Osaka on the hunt.
