Nacimos en 2020, cuando todo era incierto: la pandemia de la COVID-19 había reconfigurado el planeta. La vida se detuvo y ni siquiera podíamos vernos fuera de las pantallas de los celulares. Para escapar de esa realidad y viajar al futuro, decidimos fundar CACHA FILMS. CACHA FILMS es una compañía de producción que hemos creado en conjunto el guionista y director Carlos Lechuga (MELAZA, 2013; SANTA

Y ANDRÉS, 2016) y la productora Claudia Calviño (JUAN DE LOS MUERTOS, de Alejandro Brugués, 2011; YULI, de Iciar Bollain, 2018; A MEDIA VOZ, de Patricia Pérez y Heidi Hassan, 2019). La empresa surge amparada por las nuevas regulaciones que otorgan posibilidades financieras, organizativas y legales para las productoras independientes en Cuba. Estamos enfocados en desarrollar, producir y coproducir proyectos de directores con una voz autoral distintiva que intenten una conexión con el público, poniendo énfasis especial en la nueva generación de directoras y directores cubanos. Ofrecemos además servicios de producción para rodajes de proyectos internacionales, desde cortos y largometrajes, documentales, videos musicales, proyectos de televisión, fotografía, etc. Entre los próximos proyectos están VICENTA B., tercera película de Carlos Lechuga, apoyada por el Programa IBERMEDIA, el Fondo de Fomento del Cine Cubano, y el fondo noruego SORFOND. También en postproducción tenemos el documental de largometraje EN LA CALIENTE, sobre el olvidado pionero cubano del reguetón “Candyman”, dirigido por el productor y director Fabien Pisani; y LA MUJER SALVAJE, opera prima del joven fotógrafo, guionista y director cubano Alan González que está en fase de preproducción. No sabemos que nos espera como mundo y como compañía, por eso nos encomendemos a la Virgen de la Caridad “Cachita”, protectora de todos los cubanos, y de ahí nuestro nombre. No tenemos muchas pretensiones, solo queremos vivir para hacer cine.

Las proyecciones de la película serán en el Allen Theatre:

-7:30 pm del 28 de marzo.

-5:25 pm del 31 de marzo.

.no In proud collaboration with Bergen Global & Cine Latino, join us for a (free) movie screening of the incredible story detailed in Isla familia. 

The documentary follows independent journalist Abraham Jiménez Enoa during the last 3 years of his life, and the complex reality of a journalist operating through pressure by an unfriendly regime, all while also caring for a baby.

Join us in this raw, heartfelt and enraging history that needs to be told, everyone is welcome to join!

The movie screening will take place at Bergen Global, situated at Jekteviken 31 (CMI building). We will begin 16.30. 

After the screening, LawTransform will host a discussion touching upon the topics discussed in the movie. Panelists are yet to be announced.

Centre on Law & Social Transformation – LawTransform – is a network of scholars, students and practitioners who share an interest in how law shapes societies, and the use of rights and courts as tools for social change.

El documental sigue al periodista independiente Abraham Jiménez Enoa durante los últimos 3 años de su vida, comenzando con la llegada de la pandemia de Covid a Cuba hasta su exilio político en España. Un viaje íntimo y épico a la experiencia de resiliencia y desplazamiento a través de los ojos de una pareja, filmando su día a día con un teléfono móvil y un gran corazón.

EN LA CALIENTE: Tales of a reggaeton warrior 🇨🇺🇺🇸 FEB 6 in Miami 🇺🇸.
Join the Cuban Heritage Collection in the Kislak Center at the University of Miami for a screening and discussion of the film “En la Caliente: Tales of a Reggaeton Warrior” with director Fabien Pisani and Cuban journalist Carlos Manuel Álvarez.

Despite being hugely popular in Cuba, reggaeton is barely heard on official media and is banned from public spaces. This intense and passionate film immerses us in the youth cultural phenomenon that reggaeton represented since its emergence in the mid-90s in Santiago de Cuba, under the undeniable leadership of Kandyman. In the midst of the economic crisis (the “Special Period”), Kandyman set the streets on fire with a rhythm that circulated clandestinely via USB drives and CD-Rs. Where the authorities saw vulgarity and indecency, thousands of young people found artistic, physical, and liberating expression.

The film will be presented in Spanish with English subtitles. The discussion, moderated by Michael J. Bustamante, will be presented in Spanish.
