The Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square — two places that for me were just totally surreal to experience.

Being lucky enough to travel as much as I do, I’ve realized that I can sometimes take for granted the things I get to see — monuments, historical sites, etc. Especially since travel is part of my work, it’s easy to get caught up in the logistics of everything, making sure I get the shot I need, planning for what’s next… Sometimes I forget to pause and just appreciate the place I’m in and the things I get to experience.

Stepping onto the Great Wall for the first time was one of those moments that only travel can provide, just sheer awe and amazement at seeing this legendary place in person. I felt the same thing stepping into Tiananmen Square and seeing Mao’s portrait on the gate to the Forbidden City. Seeing the pyramids, the Taj Mahal, the Himalayas in Pakistan, and landing in Baghdad for the first time — all moments that gave me this feeling. If you’ve felt it, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.

Anyway, all this to say, I loved my trip to China and can’t wait to go back again soon. And my last video from the trip is now live, so check it out if you want to learn the best way to visit the Great Wall!
