After studying photography and film at Harvard, Costa Rican-American Charlene Music worked as a filmmaker in India, producing domestic violence pre
vention films in collaboration with children and women in rural communities. Since then, her work in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the USA has won numerous international prizes including awards from the National Academy of Television, the University Film & Video Association, the Caucus Foundation, and Kodak. Her film Roz (and Joshua), about a homeless mother's longing for her child, was the winning film at the Festival International des Tres Courts, in Paris, and won CINE's Special Jury Award. Her film Danza del Viejo Inmigrante, a documentary about the challenges facing elderly Latino immigrants in the United States, won the Best Documentary Award at Big Sky and Angelus Film Festivals. Since then, she has been the DP for feature length documentaries like Perfect Strangers, a film about altruistic kidney donation, and Telling my Story, a film about the life-changing experiences of female prisoners and Dartmouth students who work together to write and perform an original play about the lives of incarcerated women. In 2011, Charlene was the Associate Teacher of documentary film and photography for New York University's Study Abroad Program in Cuba. In 2012 she was a cinematographer for President Obama on his re-election campaign.
