Based in Beijing, Factory Gate Films is a production company founded in 2017 by veteran film lovers and experienced professionals from different branches of the cinema industry. With a production lineup blending arthouse and commercial work of acclaimed and upcoming directors, Factory Gate’s mission is to produce unique and high quality films for both Chinese and international audiences, with an emphasis on scouting and fostering new directors and talents.
Factory Gate’s production line-up includes DWELLING IN THE FUCHUN MOUNTAINS (Cannes Critics Week, closing film, 2019), first feature by GU Xiaogang, THE RETURN (in post-production), the debut feature of director FANG Liang, and STARS AWAIT US (in post-production), the second feature by ZHANG Dalei (Director of THE SUMMER IS GONE, Golden Horse Best Film Award 2017). The company is currently producing BALLOON by Tibetan helmer Pema Tseden (Director of THARLO or JINPA, Venice Film Festival, Orizzonti 2015, 2018), and new film from artist-turned director JU Anqi (Director of POET ON A BUSINESS TRIP, NETPAC Award at IFFR, 2015).
In August 2018, Factory Gate Films has seen the theatrical release of its first documentary production, MR. BIG, directed by TONG Shengjia. The film was highly regarded by critics and warmly welcomed by the local audiences.
Factory Gate is developing over twenty film projects of directors from different backgrounds, including award-winners and first- or second-time directors who have graduated from major film schools around the world including Beijing, New York or London.
