L’enceinte sportive, aussi surnommée la cuvette de Mfandena a une capacité de 40000 places.

Le stade a été construit en 1972 pour accueillir la 8e édition de la CAN. Il pouvait alors accueillir jusqu’à 12000 spectateurs.

En 2005, il a connu une première rénovation. Puis, en 2015-2016 une autre rénovation a eu lieu en vue de l’organisation de la CAN féminine 2016, du CHAN 2020 et de la CAN 2021.
