Dear Cameroonian youths : Na Wa Future !
You don't have to wait until you are in power to make a difference in domestic and global affairs. We are making every effort to change the political narrative of our country, Cameroon, and of our continent, mother Africa. We are counting on you; your position is 65% constitutional. We know many have been traumatized by the current manner of governance by the regime in power for over 40 years and counting. However, the Na Wa Future platform offers a new horizon of hope for our generation and the next in Cameroon.
We believe that in a constitutional democracy with competitive politics and limited public office mandates, in a New Republic with elected governors, strong institutions and systems, we could guarantee justice, peace, and social cohesion, which will provide the enabling environment for sustainable development and the vision of Cameroon set to emerge. This is assured with state resources at the local level used for local sector management and development, with only an agreed percentage for the central national or federal government.
The current Bicephal, Bijural, Bicamera Executive, Judiciary, and Legislature, respectively, can only function effectively with reduced appointments to the other arms by the dominant executive. Here, the constitutional council is independent, ELECAM is independent, and parliament is autonomous and competitive. The head of state may not be the head of his party upon oath of office.
This awesome change requires a complete political transition with the following steps: the building of people's power( civic engagement, political participation, political representation, voter registration), the change of the current government and regime legal and legitimate dispositions, a sovereign people's conference on the basis of a new republic, Elections, aftermath arrangements, a constitutional amendment, or, if not possible, a referendum, all of which are guided and managed by a transitional government within the scope of Article 6.4 of the current Constitution.
The Na Wa Future platform sets out to train, nurture, mentor potential electors, irrespective of political party, potential candidates for local elections, and raise awareness on the stakes, stakeholders, principles and values of competitive and constitutional democracy. We are proposing to adherents a 5-7-year vision—a sustainable vision of political and economic empowerment. A system of preparation for the approaching future. Mechanisms to navigate the slippery political terrain.
We are proposing a school of thought on a new political order on a dialogue table in consideration of and respect for the sovereign will of the Cameroonian people. This model of political order is the Great Cameroon Vision, which projects elected officials in civil service administration. This new political order is a complete adjustment that will enable the balance of power and independence of the Executive, Judiciary, and Legislative without appointments by the President of the Republic to head any other arms of the government.
In line with the provisions of the 1996 Constitution and its relevant modifications and additions proposed by Cameroonians yet to be considered, mayors, parliamentarians, and regional councilors are to effectively perform their functions as outrightly expressed in the Constitution without interference from appointed officials. Regional administration should be an elected regional governor from direct universal suffrage with regional counselors and elected governor who design the economic, social, health, and educational policies of each region according to the specificities of each region. Independent public conciliators could perform the supervisory role of appointing regional governors. Mayors manage their municipalities without interference from appointed D.Os and S.D.Os.
Also, we think the administrative units of Cameroon need a complete revision. Cameroon in the year 2000, with a population of 17 million people and 180 parliamentarians, can't be the same in 2026 with the same number of parliamentary seats. Again, we can't have Mezam division with 7 subdivisions and a population density higher than that of Bamboutos with 3 parliamentary seats and Bamboutos with just 4 subdivisions and 4 parliamentary seats. We can't reconcile the rationale of this administrative repartition. This is same with Yaoundé with 7 subdivisions and 7 parliamentary seats having a list voting system and Douala with 6 subdivisions and 9 parliamentary seats with proportionate but separate voting system. This is somewhat very unclear to reason out why it is so.
Additionally, it's not understood why the center region will have disproportionately 10 divisions when Mbam et Kim and Mbam et Inoubou could form the Mbam region or noun division with large geographical space with 9 parliamentary seats and 13 municipal council areas which could form a region. In essence, we are questioning the current political order, political configuration, and administrative set-up in Cameroon.
We are asking while not adopt local names for regions instead of the cardinal point appellations; for example, NWR = Abakwa Region, Extreme North Region = Sahel Region, and Centre Region = Ongola, South Region= Memv'ele. We will like to propose that why can't we we seek seek Vox populi on the question of a new capital city in a virgin land as a mega project of the future? Cameroon has a lot of untapped potentials in its natural and human resources. If the right foundation is set with visionary proactive, young and energetic leader at the helm, we are settled for the best in centuries to come.
