*GOVERNMENT SUPPORTS NEARLY 5,000 COCOA PRODUCERS WITH 406 MILLION FCFA IN SOUTHWEST REGION*

The government has disbursed 406 million FCFA to nearly 5,000 cocoa producers in the South West Region as part of its support to boost cocoa production. On August 28, 2025, the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, presided over the ceremony at the Buea Town Stadium, which was filled with excitement and anticipation. The event was attended by top personalities, including Honorable MP of Kumba, Tabot Lawson Bakia, and the South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai.

The Minister highlighted that the support is not just monetary but also a message of encouragement, particularly for young farmers in rural areas. He emphasized that the government values the hard work of farmers and is committed to rewarding them. "We just need to work more, and those who are working will be rewarded," he said. The Minister's words were welcomed by the regional president of cocoa producers, who expressed gratitude for the support but also appealed for continued improvements, particularly on farm-to-market roads and an increase in premium payments.

The Minister also made a commitment to the farmers regarding the price of cocoa, stating that it will never drop to 1,500 or 1,000 FCFA. He assured the farmers that President Paul Biya is dedicated to ensuring their happiness and well-being. The Minister urged the farmers to reciprocate the government's support by giving their own support to President Paul Biya. "President Paul Biya is dedicated to giving farmers happiness, and we expect your support in return," he said. The financial boost comes at a timely moment for many farmers, as they prepare for the new school year. The support will enable them to invest in their farms and support their families.

The nearly 5,000 cocoa producers in the region are now better equipped to invest in their farms and support their families, thanks to the government's support. The Minister noted that producers in the region earned 416 billion FCFA from cocoa sales during the last season, and this financial boost is a direct reward for their hard work. The farmers are grateful for the government's support and are committed to continuing their hard work to improve the sector. With this support, they are confident that they can achieve more and contribute to the growth of the economy.
