Survivor of accident which claimed Junior Pope's life speak out

“When we got to the location, I bought Fanta, I had 10k with me, I sprayed it on the water and gave some to the children in the area.” Actor TC Okafor, one of the survivor of the boat accident, narrates his ordeal.

In an Instagram live, the actor says “On the first day, when Junior pope came to the set, he wasn’t comfortable. Then after a while he said he was leaving.

On the day of the incident, we all gathered at the river to board the boat that would take us to the set. Since we stated the job, I always sit in front, so I can hold the rope.

Junior pope was making a video and I told everyone to put their phones in their pockets.

Only two people wore life jackets; the DOP and Director.

The boat guy was wearing an earpiece and wanted to show his face in Junior Pope’s video.

He jammed one of the canoes in the river and our boat capsized”

MATURE MINDS PERPETUATING NORTH WEST AND SOUTH WEST DIVIDE: A LAUGHABLE ISSUE OF THE PAST.

When I see mature minds in this era still perpetuating the North West and South West divide, I can't help but laugh. It's a thing of the past. The North West man is often unfairly disliked. People have tried to sow discord; just ask about individuals like Oben Peter Ashu, who championed the divisive slogan "graffi must go".

I recently read that some label the ongoing crisis as solely a North West issue, pitting the North West against the other nine regions of the country.

Unjust hatred towards us is misplaced and hurtful. It's disheartening to see nation builders contributing to this division. It's unfair to generalize and insult an entire region based on the actions of a few.

The 'come no go' syndrome, which originated from former South West Governor, the late Oben Peter Ashu, has unfortunately influenced many South Westerners. They wrongly view so-called settlers as the source of their socioeconomic challenges.

In the late 1990s, when the Social Democratic Front (SDF) was gaining ground in the South West Region, some locals falsely claimed the SDF was a North West Region party and launched verbal attacks on North Western residents.

It's the xenophobic remarks from our elites, including some lawmakers, that embolden individuals like Chef Dawei to continue spewing hate towards the North West. This cycle of hate needs to end. As I've mentioned, this prejudice against the North West didn't start recently.

It is high time that we, as a nation, reject these harmful stereotypes and prejudices and strive to build a society that celebrates diversity, fosters inclusivity, and promotes unity and solidarity among all its citizens.

It is incumbent upon our nation builders and leaders to lead by example and champion the values of tolerance, understanding, and mutual respect, thereby creating an environment where all citizens can thrive and prosper irrespective of their regional or ethnic background.
