Israel and Iran Confirm Ceasefire Agreement, Ending 12-Day War

Israel and Iran have officially confirmed a "complete and total ceasefire" to end their 12-day war, following a surprise announcement by US President Donald Trump. The agreement marks a significant development in the conflict, potentially preventing further escalation and devastation in the region.

According to Trump, the ceasefire will take effect in approximately six hours, allowing both Israel and Iran to wind down and complete their final missions. Iran will initiate the ceasefire, followed by Israel 12 hours later. After 24 hours, the world will officially mark the end of the 12-day war.

The ceasefire agreement was reportedly brokered by the United States, with Qatar mediating talks with Iran. Israel agreed to the ceasefire on the condition that Iran stop its attacks in their country, and Iran accepted the terms, thus ending the 12-day war.

The international community has welcomed the breakthrough, praising the leadership and resilience of both Iran and Israel for prioritizing peace efforts. The agreement's success will depend on both sides' commitment to the ceasefire and a willingness to engage in diplomatic efforts to resolve their differences.

Students Exposed to Real-World Medicine at Bamenda Regional Hospital

The Child Care Development Initiative (CCDI) Cameroon, a non-profit organization, recently took a group of medical health sciences students from the Children Professional Holidays Center on a field trip to the Bamenda Regional Hospital. The visit aimed to expose the students to the realities of working in a medical setting, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in practical situations.

During the visit, the students were given a tour of the hospital's various units, including the emergency department, ultrasound room, and eye department. Dr. Theodore Tefuh Tebong, who received the students, emphasized the importance of early orientation in helping students make informed decisions about their future careers. "When you start at this stage, you start orienting yourself, and you really go a long way to help them," he said.

Dr. Alfred Wuku Kudi, Director of the Program, highlighted the benefits of exposing students to real-world medical settings. "It's a very good experience for the children, for us to expose them, so that when we want to orientate them, it will be very good for us to give them directives on what to do in life, and they will understand with realities," he explained.

Mme. Nenghabi Miriam, Coordinator of the CCDI Health Department, expressed gratitude to the hospital management for allowing the students to visit. She noted that the students were inquisitive and showed a keen interest in learning, particularly in the ultrasound room. "Some of them were very inquisitive, asking questions about how the ultrasound machine works and what is being used there," she said.

Onlookers were impressed by the students' eagerness to learn. "Many that saw these children were in awe as they wonder at the eagerness in the children who are just between 6 and 18 years old," observers noted, highlighting the potential and enthusiasm of the young students.

The students were impressed by the hospital's facilities and technology. Lobe Ekupajoy, one of the students, was amazed by the advanced equipment but noted that the hospital's wiring system needed improvement. "I've worked and looked at different departments in the hospital, and I was like, wow, Bamenda is very advanced because I've even seen things I've never seen in my life," Ekupa Joy said.

Angwe, a student of engineering, was inspired by the hospital's technology and aspires to create innovative systems. "Coming here to the hospital today was a very big experience for me. I would say from what we have been learning, the different systems we have been looking at in school, it comes to real life, practicals, we see x-ray, radiation, and it inspires me to aspire more," She said.

Another student was fascinated by the eye department and learned about a machine known as the sleep lens. "The most interesting machine I have seen in the regional hospital is the CT scan," the student added.

The visit demonstrates CCDI's commitment to providing students with practical experiences that complement their theoretical knowledge. By exposing students to real-world medical settings, CCD's aim is to better prepare them for their future careers and help them make informed decisions about their professional paths.

11 New Lawyers Sworn into the Cameroon Bar

Report by Wirngo Peter Tardzenyuy

The High Court in Bamenda, North West Region, witnessed a significant milestone on Friday, June 20, 2025, as 11 new lawyers were sworn into the Cameroon Bar. The ceremony, presided over by a panel of judges headed by a High Court judge, was attended by the Bar President, Mbah Eric Mbah, the North West Bar representative, and other Bar Council members.

The newly sworn-in lawyers comprise two former university lecturers and nine individuals who studied law in Rwandan law schools. According to Bar President Mbah Eric, the addition of these new members makes the bar "11% stronger," emphasizing that every new lawyer brings increased strength and ability to the profession.

In an interview, President Mbah Eric welcomed the new members, urging those who were sworn in from foreign bars to humble themselves and study the specific laws and practices applicable in Cameroon. "There's a lot that they practice in the foreign bars that will not apply here," he advised, encouraging them to take time to learn the local laws and regulations.

One of the newly sworn-in lawyers, Maria Esther from the Camarunba Association, shared her inspiration for joining the profession. She was motivated by the ability of lawyers to express themselves effectively and advocate for justice. Esther emphasized the importance of respect for seniors and the court, highlighting that this obligation will be taken seriously by the new lawyers.

The swearing-in ceremony marked a new chapter for the 11 individuals, who are now part of the Cameroon Bar. The Bar President's words of wisdom and guidance will likely shape their approach to the profession as they embark on this new journey.

The event was a celebration of the new lawyers' achievement, and the Bar Council's enthusiasm for the growth and strengthening of the profession was palpable. As the new lawyers begin their journey, they carry with them the expectations of upholding the values of the profession and contributing to the administration of justice in Cameroon.

Bar President Mbah Eric Mbah Launches Reelection Campaign in Bamenda

Report: Wirngo Peter Tardzenyuy

The incumbent President of the Cameroon Bar Association, Barrister Mbah Eric Mbah, has launched his reelection campaign in Bamenda, North West Region. The campaign, which took place at Jua Hotel on June 19, 2025, drew a gathering of lawyers and top officials of the Bar Association.

In his address to the gathering, Mbah Eric highlighted the progress his administration has made so far, despite facing numerous challenges. He emphasized that the Bar Council has been working tirelessly to amend outdated laws governing the legal profession. Some notable achievements include a draft proposal submitted to the Prime Minister and Parliament, focusing on key areas such as protecting the profession from intruders and defining the role of lawyers in court proceedings. The Bar Council has also redefined the concept of a lawyer's chamber to include digital platforms, ensuring seamless service delivery in the digital age.

Additionally, the Bar Council has organized numerous seminars and training sessions for lawyers, including those in the North West Region, on topics such as setting up and transforming Common Law benches and filing actions before the Commonwealth Registration.

When asked about his decision to seek reelection, Mbah Eric explained that his administration has made significant progress, but there's still more work to be done. He emphasized the need for continuity and completing ongoing projects, such as the Bar Head Office, a prime project that requires completion to ensure the Bar Association has a functional headquarters. The administration also aims to establish a sinking fund to support lawyers in need and has set up an insurance policy for lawyers, which will provide financial protection and security.

Mbah Eric's campaign message centers on the theme of continuity and progress. He believes that his administration has laid a solid foundation, and with a second mandate, they can take their projects to the next level. His vision for the Bar Association includes increased access to training, leveraging online platforms to reach more members, and protection of the legal profession, pushing for laws that protect the profession and ensure that lawyers are not undermined by unqualified individuals.

With the campaign now underway, it's clear that Mbah Eric is confident in his ability to lead the Bar Association to greater heights. The upcoming elections will determine whether he will be given a second mandate to continue his work.

The Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon, has been a topic of discussion lately. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently inspected the stadium and deemed it obsolete, stating that it no longer meets international standards. The CAF has classified the stadium as fourth-category, making it potentially unsuitable for hosting major international matches.

Despite the CAF's assessment, the Office National des Infrastructures and Équipements Sportifs (ONIES) has stated that the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium is available for hosting matches, including the upcoming CAN 2025 qualifiers. ONIES even specified that the stadium is the only one available for such events in Yaoundé.

The stadium is set to host a crucial match between Cameroon and Zimbabwe in the CAN 2025 qualifiers. The Fédération Camerounaise de Football (Fecafoot) has officially requested the use of the stadium for this match.

The stadium has undergone renovations in the past, including a major renovation in 2016. However, safety concerns have been raised after an incident during the renovation process resulted in the death of a worker.

The Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium has a capacity of 40,122 seats, with a grass surface, and is located in Yaoundé, Cameroon. It hosts football matches, athletics competitions, and other sports events.

The stadium's future remains uncertain, with discussions ongoing about its potential renovation or replacement. The ONIES is working to ensure that the stadium meets the necessary standards for hosting international matches.
