Call for papers Revista de Arquitectura N°48
TO GIVE PLACE TO PLACES + FREE THEME
Perhaps it is possible to demonstrate that the inescapable task, the primary obligation of architecture, is TO GIVE PLACE TO PLACES: to make possible what is not yet a place, but needs to be one (or what was once a place and aspires to regain that condition), in the best and most beautiful way possible.
Architecture as the human ability to give a unique place to some of the potential places: to make them real and viable by imagining them (conceiving them, bringing them to light, writing them, drawing them, modeling them, filming them, dancing them, projecting them, embodying them) and realizing and materializing them (expressing and constructing them with words, lines, paper, clay, pixels, gestures, concrete, steel, wax, or polycarbonate).
The 48th issue of Revista de Arquitectura urges us to argue, whether in agreement or in dissent, from certainty or perplexity, with expectations and with facts, about what architecture is or was, what it could be and what it should be in times of indeterminacy and uncertainty, of incompleteness and defenselessness, now threatened by catastrophe and the looming prospect of thirst. An architecture suited for an immediate future that, unless we urgently address it, is approaching, weighed down by neglect, migrations, and dissatisfaction, dark and devoid of nature.
