Female founders are making waves in the entrepreneurship industry💥

And it’s a breath of fresh air…

Did you know that companies that designed or sold period products were historically owned by men?

There are billions of menstruating women across the world who need access to good quality period care and products, so doesn’t it make sense for women to be heavily involved in innovation and research in this industry?

Thankfully, there has been a shift…

Women are now getting more funding which allows them access to innovation. There are women behind products as engineers, women who are also making products themselves based on their own experiences and this is why better period products are being created.

Having more perspectives and more lived-experiences who are innovating and creating together will produce an even better outcome for all of us.

Be sure to tune into Episode 63 where I speak with Ira Guha about eradicating period poverty and the powerful ripple effect of her mission.

A true life-changing product 🩸

This is what our guest shares in this week’s fascinating episode of Narratives of Purpose.

Ira Guha is the founder of the Asan Cup, which has been dubbed the Best Menstrual Cup on the market by The Evening Standard.

Not only is this product changing the lives of women in rural India by empowering them to work and attend school during their period, but their mission is to bridge the gap of period poverty globally.

Asan has developed a one-for-one donation structure which means that every time an Asan cup is purchased, another is donated to a community in rural India.

Listen to today’s conversation to hear the impact of this product and Ira’s story behind it’s creation 🎙️

Innovation and technology allows us to reach people and create access points to those who would otherwise fail to be supported.

In last week’s episode of Narratives of Purpose, I had a conversation with Rhiana Spring - Founder of Spring ACT.

They have developed advanced technology in the form of a Chatbot called Sophia to support survivors and those suffering from domestic violence and abuse.

In Episode 62, Rhiana shares how the innovative chatbot enables users to access their own personal portal and how their data is protected in the most secure and fascinating way!

Be sure to catch up on Episode 62, it’s an episode not to be missed 🎙️

Eighteen months ago I had the pleasure of interviewing Rhiana Spring (Founder of Spring Act) on Narratives on Purpose.

Since then, the organisation has built significant momentum and attention - and who better to get the behind the scenes perspective from than Rhiana herself?

I truly admire her entrepreneurial endeavours and her team's work combining human rights and technology to create tools empowering individuals in vulnerable situations.

This organisation has a clear mission to connect human rights and technology to empower people to take action and eliminate global social interest-isms, and their way of doing it is fascinating.

Be sure to listen to Episode 62 today 🎙️

Conversations that get you thinking…💡

That’s what Narratives of Purpose is all about.

Last week’s conversation with Bart De Witte truly highlighted the downfalls in access to health data, and the consequences that our global society faces as a result.

If a small percentage of health organisations collect data from the masses, and then privatise their findings by locking them behind a paywall, it becomes increasingly challenging to get the results we need to improve health equality across the board.

Be sure to listen to this fascinating conversation today

The benefits of getting curious 💫

This has been the key to my own personal growth, my ability to see different perspectives and has opened the door to many conversations, connections and opportunities.

It is fascinating what rises to the surface when we speak to people who are working towards different missions but have the same goal:

👉 Making the world a better place for all of us to live.

To hear the many voices of Narratives of Purpose, be sure to listen to our recent episodes where I check in with my previous guests and hear how much things have progressed since our first conversation.

And who doesn’t want to hear those powerful stories, right?

Narratives of Purpose is more than a podcast.

It is more than content.

It is a peek into the minds and lives of powerful change-makers who are making the difference that many of us want to see in our world.

We all have the power to make a difference, even if we don’t see it through the small steps that we make.

Is there a mission or a vision that you are working towards right now?

“The vision remains and is stronger than ever!”

Join us in Episode 60 of Narratives of Purpose which takes us back to our first ever podcast episode with returning guest, Pauline Koelbl.

Over the past few years, Pauline has ridden the unexpected twists and turns of entrepreneurship and has led from the front to provide investment opportunities for African women in her mission to close the 62 billion dollar gender funding gap.

One quote that Pauline said in this conversation really stood out:

“Women make up 50% of the population, and they raise the other 50%. So why wouldn’t we invest more into them?”

The rollercoaster journey of a startup… 🎙️

We all know that a startup up is not an easy beast to tame, however, in this season of NOP I will be hearing first-hand how new businesses keep the momentum going as the company grows.

One of the (many) reasons that I enjoy speaking to the wonderful guests that feature on Narratives of Purpose is to hear the reality of what goes on behind the scenes in a brand new business.

👉 The lessons that are learned along the way

👉 The unexpected challenges that arise

👉 The growth techniques and strategies that are used in different industries

👉 The revisions and updates to products or services

Listen to Episode 59 episode to hear the difference that two years has made for this Aequaland since it launched and how these lessons could also help you in your personal or career journey 👂

My mission is to share those stories and voices (and it’s also a bonus that I learn something new every time I do!)

Perspective is powerful, and we can learn a lot from those who share their stories and experience openly and generously.

A Q U A C U L T U R E 🌊

A word that we have been hearing more and more frequently in the food industry.

The same way that we farm, harvest and raise on land, the aquaculture industry helps to create healthier habitats. It’s not only used as a way to rebuild stocks of endangered species it also serves as responsible and reliable source of food.

In Episode 50 we spoke with Imani Black who is the founder of Minorities In Aquaculture.

When she realised that she had never worked with another woman of colour in a leadership role in the industry, she founded the MIA community that soon served as a way to connect the missing links in aquaculture and connect skilled individuals to roles that reflected their capabilities.

Be sure to catch up on Episode 50 which is all about Networks and Community Builders within the sustainable food industry.

“To bring about the future we want to see…”

This is the stage where I truly understood the power of using your voice.

What I realised, through listening to many other Tedx Talks and giving my own, was that we have the ability to learn more than we could possibly imagine by hearing another perspective.

It allows us to expand our own vision and see possibilities from an angle that we may never have considered.

Narratives of Purpose was created as a result of many conversations, perspectives and views that I had experienced and wanted MORE people to gain access to.

It really is quite fascinating to see what humans can do when they gain the insight of a new perspective 💡

I thank all of you for listening to the variety of voices that we have featured on this podcast, and I look forward to sharing many many more.

This is your reminder that perspective is everything, and it has the ability to not only change your world, but the worlds and lives of many others…

Small steps to sustainability 🍃

Our 3-Part series has given us some food-for-thought. There have been many big steps towards a brighter and more sustainable future, however our conversations have also highlighted that we still have quite a way to go.

As our guest Bastiaan Frich (a leading member of Urban Agriculture Basel) said: “In every city there are committed people who want to make a change. So the best day to start is now.”

So we're handing you the floor to jump into the comment section and share your sustainable choices with us💭 👇

Are you involved in a local or global network around sustainable food production?

Are you part of a community garden in your neighbourhood?

Or do you regularly share seasonal cooking recipes with your friends?

Sustainability is closer than you think if we pay attention to those small-but-mighty changes that will lead us to a more sustainable future.
