Balikbayans committed to enacting laws protecting Filipino minors from s*xual abuse.
We are independent balikbayans empassioned about enacting laws that protect minors from s*xual assault in the Philippines and beyond. Three years of arduous research has been put into this important story, which occurred between 2010 through 2012. On Omar's Watch is the true story of an impoverished 14-year old Filipina from Maghaway whose life spirals into darkness after being s*xually assaulted
by Omar, the father of the infant she babysits. But it is also the story of a remarkable recovery, a 13-year struggle in which the victim overcomes the wickedness of a sociopath, manages to attend college, and ultimately builds herself a meaningful and productive life with her two children and politically influential fiancé.

The male was 16 at the time of the r**e, and therefore stood trial as a youth and cannot be named.
Nobody is born a criminal, but it is surprisingly easy for a person to become one. R**e is a heinous expression of dominance. A ra**st believes that he/she can command dominance over his/her victim by infringing upon their victim's right to have the freedom to decide whom they want to have s*x with.
Philippines society perceives having s*x as 'losing virginity', or losing the right to be called 'pure'. A ra**st sees r**e as an act of robbing the victim of their purity and dignity.
R**e is far more than a physical act. It is driven by the desire to shame the victim and reduce them from a human to an object. Worse, surveyed ra**sts say that ra**ng a victim gives them a feeling of power and control.
And, I have the audacity to say that the society we live in, very casually promotes this mentality in a seemingly harmless manner.
The society evolves boys into believing that they are not men enough unless they can have s*x or show dominance over women.
The society encourages women to be submissive and any form of raising voice against the patriarchy is seen as being immoral. Any attempt to exercise an action condoned for boys like dating, having multiple partners, and having voluntary s*x is labelled as being a 'slut'.
As a young boy, the child sees the father scolding the child's mother, the mother being silent when she is hit,he gets this idea that 'Yes, girls are meant to be silent and a guy can beat her up, its normal.'
When he grows up and sees the actress in movies trying to flirt with the boy and dressing slutty to seduce him, he thinks 'Yeah, women are physical objects for me to play. Its normal'
He enters college and his friends are like 'Dude! You are friend zoned! There is no way you are gonna get laid'
He thinks 'The only reason a guy should be friends with a girl is to have s*x and nothing more. His friendship is a service for which he should be getting s*x as a salary'
The casual 'Don't cry, you are a man', 'Are you a girl, smoke a cig, man!'
'You are not a man, you don't watch p**n', 'You don't jerk off? What are you, gay?' these add the final blow in the innocent mind and make it a s*xist one.
And then when, this guy becomes a ra**st, its seen with shock.
A woman on the other hand is taught to make sacrifices for the man.
'he is your brother, give your share to him.' 'Hush! , You are a girl, speak slow'.
The society is at fault here. Our boys need to be nurtured better, our girls need to be empowered. R**e happens as a result of our degraded values and morals, male ego and inequality in terms of gender roles.
Anyone can be a ra**st. Your best friend, your uncle, your relative.

"S*xual abuse, especially in childhood, is deeply devastating. Not only do some victims endure violation from those they depend on to survive. They are often forced to hide the truth. Their mental, emotional and physical growth must adapt to accommodate repeated terror, isolation, duplicity, and unwanted, unavoidable arousal that their bodies and minds are not yet developed enough to understand."
S*xual trauma, abuse and violence impact a surprisingly large number of people — maybe even you or someone you know. One in 9 girls and 1 in 53 boys under age 18 will experience s*xual abuse or assault by an adult, reports the anti s*xual-violence organization, RAINN. Accurate statistics about chi...
Children deserve a childhood. Let's end the Culture of Silence that gives child predators like the cunning monster characterized in On Omar's Watch a free pass. It takes courage, but victims need to speak out and parents must listen and take action. This is why we've created On Omar's Watch, because it's never too late to achieve moral justice and closure for victims by confronting their abuser - even if it's 13 years after the fact.

On Omar's Watch is the true story of an impoverished 14-year old Filipina from Maghaway whose life spirals into darkness after being s*xually abused by Omar, the father of the infant she babysits.
Masquerading as a God-fearing, family man, Omar from San Fernando waits until his wife is employed in the United Arab Emirates and then uses manipulation, humiliation, and mind control to coerce their babysitter into demeaning, ongoing s*xual servitude.
When the adolescent resettles back to Maghaway, she is consumed by shame and self-loathing, chastised by gossip in her Barangay, and becomes paralyzed by excruciating depression and anxiety.
Masked by a cheery persona, she stops attending school and rapidly descends down a painful path of alcohol abuse, s*xual addiction, and ultimately attempts su***de.
On Omar's Watch exposes the tragic consequences of s*xual class warfare, particularly against poor women of color, and the lasting torment faced by victims of s*xual child abuse.
But On Omar's Watch is also a story of a remarkable recovery, a 13-year struggle in which the victim overcomes the wickedness of a sociopath and ultimately builds a productive and meaningful life for herself and two children.
This piece recounts events occurring between May 3rd 2010 through April 11th 2012. The events transpired across Azienda Firenze, San Fernando, and Gingoog City, Philippines.
Testimony of primary and secondary sources have been meticulously documented over a period of 3 years.
