Introducing Myself

I was born into an international family with parents from England and Sweden whilst living and growing up in Switzerland. I’m bilingual (English and French) and embrace culture differences. I’m a positive young man and am very interested in undertaking an undergraduate degree in Film Production / Cinematography, starting fall 2018.

Film for me is a demonstration of what life is and can be. It allows us to experience and see new perspectives and it leaves us, each time, with different feelings. Since joining the International School of Geneva (Ecolint), my passion for film and art has deepened. I’m currently in the final year of the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) where I study Art and Design with Film HL, Maths Studies and English B HL. I do appreciate my courses because of the programme curriculum but also because of the multi-cultural environment and the excellent connection between students and teachers. The Art and Design and the Diploma Film HL course have provided me with excellent foundational knowledge that will be very useful for my future university studies. During this final year in particular I have continuously been motivated to go beyond my comfort zone to try new methods and techniques less familiar to me. I have learnt how to succeed as part of a team and how to motivate others to reach a project outcome that meets everyone’s satisfaction and expectations. Ecolint has really showed the IB students an entirely different way of learning which I have embraced. It has encouraged and inspired me to follow the path that I truly wish to pursue. My devotion for film has been with me since I was a child. Today I spend a lot of my free time researching online videos, articles, books, DIY guides about filming and technical equipment. This research has helped me improve the creation of my short films and it has also helped me in the IB film course that I’m now attending. I’m currently working on my final short film project. This is a team effort. In my role as a cinematographer, I’m in charge of the the storyboarding, shot framing and location planning.

Besides my class work, I have created many short films and taken lot’s of photographs (digital and negative cameras) which I publish on various social media platforms and my website www.dynamicstudios.ch. One of my photographs won the photo of the week competition on the website Lumix G Experience. In October 2015, I had the opportunity to gain some work experience for the award-winning British commercial and music video production company Blink Productions based in London. I worked on the set for the 2016 Sainsbury’s Christmas advert, where, for the first time, I was able to visually see how a professional studio works. I was introduced to various professionals within the industry who each presented their profession to me. My time at Blink Productions helped me in my decision to make filmmaking my future career.

Apart from my interest in filmmaking, I have had many different hobbies throughout my life. I always had a connection and love for nature. At the age of eleven, I developed a huge interest for honey bees. I built and setup my own hives and I managed the production and caretaking of my bees. I ended up harvesting large quantities of honey which pushed me to set up a business, selling my honey at local markets. Local media picked up on this and I was featured in the local newspaper and interviewed on local television (starting at 7min 50s). My earnings exceeded my expectations and it allowed me to purchase my first professional film equipment - A DJI Phantom 3 professional, a Panasonic GH4 and the GoPro Hero 4 Black edition.
