🌍📊 New Media Intelligence Service Report : "Public Service Media as an Antidote to Polarization"

We are thrilled to present our latest report, which delves into a subject of increasing importance across Europe — polarization. With societal divides growing, our findings highlight how (PSM) can be the antidote. In an era of mutual distrust and a pervasive "us versus them" mentality, strong PSM emerges as a beacon of hope.

Here's what our report highlights:

🔹 Lower Polarization: Countries with robust PSM experience lower levels of polarization. When PSM is a primary news source, citizens are exposed to a diversity of viewpoints, fostering understanding and dialogue.

🔹 Combating Disinformation: A strong PSM presence helps nations tackle disinformation more effectively, promoting trust in the broader media ecosystem.

🔹 Promoting Political Culture: PSM plays a crucial role in informing citizens about political processes and nurturing interest in politics, thereby strengthening democratic engagement.

🔹 Cross-Audience Reach: The strong online presence of PSM is key to reducing cross-audience polarization, ensuring that diverse segments of society receive balanced and impartial news.

📣 “Today, AI is *the* burning issue for public service media, who seek to maximize its benefits in the public interest. We need regulators, AI developers and media to find a common purpose through open and ongoing dialogue, which is what we’re advocating.”

So says Eric Scherer Director of the News MediaLab at France Télévisions and Chair of the EBU News Committee about a new strategic EBU paper calling on regulators, AI developers, and media organizations to work together so public media organizations can continue to serve Europeans properly in the AI era.

🌱 The newly formed EBU Greener Orchestras steering group had its first in-person meeting at the Media Ensemble Seminar in Salford on 16-17 May. Hosted by the BBC and BBC Philharmonic, this event brought together 39 attendees from 16 organizations across 13 countries. 🎶🌍

Key discussions focused on sustainability in the orchestral world, coinciding with the release of the EBU Media Orchestras and Sustainability Survey report. 🌿📊
