Gorživággi in Sami or Fossedalen in Norwegian, which means literally Waterfall Valley, is an inaccessible area in Nordland at the end of Tysfjord. The name comes from the countless waterfalls that line the valley, and the beauty of the area outshines any other place in Norway. Right after the fjord is the Langvatnet lake. At its end is a high cliff with the Mellomfossen waterfall. At the end of the valley is the Tysbre glacier. As with all places in Norway, the weather is variable.

To avoid mass tourism, access is strictly controlled. You can get there by boat from Drag fergekai. On the boat, the captain will speak to you in the most extreme Nordland dialect, and you will have to respond in kind.
If you do not, you will be left on the pier and banned from entering the valley for the rest of your life. All people in a group will be tested and you will not be invited to join.
To protect the valley, the rules are strict, even by Norwegian standards. Littering is punishable by a fine of 500000 NOK (50000€) or three years in prison. Taking a dump is forbidden and only allowed in three areas of the park. And flying a drone is punishable by 5 years in prison.

It's also strictly forbidden to share a picture on social media, so this post could be removed very quickly by the authorities.

In one of the least touristic places in Norway there is the Madonna Path in Eggedal. This is a trail which leads to the top of a mountain where you will find a Madonna Statue. This is a very uncommon sight in Norway. The statue is located at the border of the Trillemarka Nature reserve.

Polarcircle sentre is loacted on Satfjellet between Mo i Rana and Fauske. It was built with the construstion of the E6 in the 1990s.
Due to the nutation of the Earth axis the position of the polar circle varies over the millenia. It is currently moving North and is now 1 km away from the polar circle centre.
The polar circle will continue moving North for the next 8000 years, and will be just the South of the Lofoten then, before moving South again.

Around the centre people built a lot of cairns. It was tolerated for a long time, but because tourist destroyed some cultural sites for stones, it is now forbidden.
People still do it, but the employee of the centre will destroy a them.
As it still continues, it's just a mater of time until more severe punishement will be introduced.

The view from Reinebringen on the Lofoten is Norway's most famous view, which covers many tourists guide. The mountain is approx. 500 m high. Previously the path up there was extremely bad and dangerous, so that it was even closed. Then a stair was built to the top. It has over 2200 steps, and it takes approx. 2h to get to the top.
If you never went up such a long stair, you are going to feel your legs for next two weeks.
The hike shall only be done when there is no snow and ice on the stairs. Winter ascents are very dangerous and should not be done without professional mountain guide.

The Trollfjord is one of the most narrow fjords of Norway. The most narrow place is 100m wide which half the of the Nærøyfjord. With 2 km length is very short.
The fjord is only accesible by ship. There is a hike to it, but the starting point is also only reachable by boat. Therefor there will be plenty of sightseeing ships in fjord. We chose the company Lofoten Sea Service AS, M/S Øykongen for out tour.
Sea Eagles can be observered in and around the fjord.

Svolvær is the main city of the Lofoten. It used to be a small fishing village with wooden houses, but many modern buildings were built along the waterfront. Feels like a bit like Aker Brygge now.
If you like a the business types there, it alternates between restaurant and adventure business offering fishing or safari tours.

Dronningruta - The queen route - is probably the most scenic hike in Northern Norway on the Vesterålen. For the style it could be called Besseggen of the North, as there is always something to see along the way (except it is a day like the one we were, the tops are shrouded in clouds). It was named the queen route after Queen Sonja did the hike.
We did the hike from Stø with first the mountain path and then the beach part, which in hindsight might not be the best, as you have to do down the steep ridge part. You can also do it from Nyksund, but it requires an additional ascent.
Its probably the only mountain hike which also include walking on the beach.
We hike well marked and takes around 6-7h. Because of the very steep places we have to give it our red difficult sign.

Since it rained too much, we discovered the coastal train at Langenes just outside of Stø on the Vesterålen. The path is 4.2 km long and is mostly flat, but has some steep section. There are different sites along the path.
It takes a bit more than 2 h to do the hike if you hike back on the road. It gets our easy blue sign, as the steep places rule out a the green very sign.

Just outside Andenes is Andøya Space. This is the place where Norway launches sounding rockets. Norway is actually the 4th country to have passed the Karman line and thus reached space after Germany, the USA and the Sowjetunion.
There is a small exhibition and small interactive installations. For space nerds you can book the guided tour the actually facilities. Unfourtenately we could not take any photos of them.
Further south a new launch site is being constructed, where orbital rockets will be launched. You can clearly see then tank farm and other installation. The mountains around will be provide probably one of the best viewpoints in the world to see rocket launches.
