On Friday, November 1st, our long-awaited film Malevych directed by Daria Onyshchenko will premiere at the Molodist Film Festival in Kyiv. The film tells the story of the provocative artist Kazymyr Malevych and his groundbreaking painting the Black Square.
The film covers several periods of Malevych's life: from the famous futuristic exhibition 0.10 in St. Petersburg to his teaching at Chagall's art school in today's Belarus and his work at the Art Institute in Kyiv where the artist dared to depict the horrors of the Holodomor in his paintings.
This historical part is framed by the contemporary struggle of Ukrainians to preserve their national identity and culture in the face of the current war.
The film Malevych has been produced as a Ukrainian-Serbian-Italian-Swiss co-production already during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
