The Violinist Revered By Analogue Recording Lovers

Celebrating Martzy's 100th birthday, Triston Masters will release 4 episodes: Volume I, II, III and IV as Limited Editions to 300 pieces (each) worldwide, with an independent number. Analogue Recording Content included Mozart, Schubert, Ravel, Bartok and Brahms. Some Stereo, some Mono. Johanna Martzy's historic recordings of 1974 from the original analogue tape make up a legacy, precious recording by Radio Zurich in Switzerland.

Johanna Martzy was a Hungarian violinist born on October 26, 1924. She is remembered for her short career. Martzy began studying violin at age six. Soon afterwards she started lessons with Jeno Hubay at the Liszt Academy in Budapest and continued with him until 1937. By age 13 she was already touring Hungary and Romania. She did comparatively little recording: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Dvorak, Bartok, and Stravinsky, mostly for the Britsh Columbia Label, today very sought-after and collectable LPs, on the other side, though many tapes of radio broadcasts still exist. Martzy mostly played a Carlo Bergonzi, 1733, violin though she also owned the Strad, Huberman, 1733 and a Peter Guarnerius the Carl Flesch’s old violin. She died in Switzerland, her death virtually unnoticed, on August 13, 1979, at age 54.

She made her debut at 13 and won a prize at the Geneva International Music Competition in 1947. Died of cancer in Glarus, Switzerland, on August 13, 1979, at the age of 54. A cult violinist whose recordings are few and far between, it was unfortunate that events passed unnoticed after her untimely death. Nor did her career predict her posthumous idolization.

Erik Satie, was a French composer and pianist. A colourful figure in the early 20th century Parisian avant-garde, he referred to himself as a "phonometrograph" or "phonometrician" (meaning "someone who measures (and writes down) sounds"), preferring this designation to that of "musician," after having been called "a clumsy but subtle technician" in a book on contemporary French composers published in 1911. Later, from the 1940s on, predominantly John Cage presented Satie's work as that of an inventor of a new and modern musical expression, and so he was slowly rediscovered and became a precursor to artistic movements such as minimalism, repetitive music, ambient (called "Furniture Music" by Satie) and the Theatre of the Absurd. In addition to his body of music, Satie also left a remarkable set of often humorous and witty writings.

Technics RS-1500US Stereo Reel to Reel Tape Recorder (1977-87)

Technics was a real contender in reel-to-reel tape recorders, they released 7 models, starting in late 1977 and the remainder in 1978. The Technics RS-1500 came first and shortly thereafter the RS-1506, RS-1520, RS-1700, RS-1800, RS-10A02 “R&B Series”.

Technically, the machine is identical to the RS-1506US. The audio head carrier on the RS-1500US is the RP-2224 (2-track record playback/4-track playback). On the RS-1506US, the audio head mount is the RP-2422 (4-track record/playback/2-track playback). Both headstocks can be interchanged at will between the two machines by loosening three screws. The RP-2224 and RP2422 headstocks also work on Technics RS-1700, but the auto-reverse function is switched off.

The Technics RS-1500 is a half-track Record/Play with a switchable quarter-track head using the RP-2224 headlock. It has the Isolated Loop tape path developed by Technics with low wow and flutter (.018%) that also keeps down-modulation noise. A very smooth and stable tape path using a large 34mm capstan and 2 pinch rollers combined with an electronic tension control system completes this transport. Tape tension on the Isolated Loop tape path is low compared to many other machines, so for those using older tapes with rippled edges, this may not be the ideal.

A Quartz-Locked Direct-Drive Capstan Motor completed the well-designed assembly. Logic-controlled electronic braking, which applies reverse torque to the motor before deploying a mechanical brake, results in a very smooth transition between function selections and virtually no tape stretch. Control functions included a three-position speed control, remote timer, start, meter sensitivity, mike attenuator, source tape monitoring (separate for each track), three switch positions for bias and equalization, record track selection levers, and a tape counter indicating minutes and seconds at 38cm/s per second 10½ ”. Two good quality VU’s were fitted, but transients still under-read appreciably and no peak indicators were supplied. The recorder could also be used with a 24V DC power supply. Direct-drive, brushless DC motor with phase-locked quartz control for the tone shaft (from turntable e.g. 1210), two direct-drive, brushless DC motors with tape tension control for the winding plates.

In the words of Jack Kreisberg (Blue Note, New York): "He's got a killer sound!" MarkusPhilippe presents their third 2022 album "Brushed" as a trio, joined by drummer Reto "Bischi" Bischofberger, who perfectly fits into their musical world.

What started as a practice project, intending to avoid the isolation of solo rehearsal, quickly developed an astounding momentum of its own. Philippe Chrétien trained in piano and trumpet by Chester Gill, found his way to his preferred instrument, the tenor saxophone, in 1979.
He gathered international performing experience with highly acclaimed musicians and DJs exploring a vast musical diversity, all of which contributed to the evolution of his particular, very personal style.

In his solo project, he also proves to be an accomplished composer, producer and DJ. Elegantly understated, his gala performances are all about creating a relaxed and sensual atmosphere.

Philippe Chrétien is immediately recognisable by his soulful sound and feeling. In the words of Jack Kreisberg (Blue Note, New York): "He's got a killer sound!".

With Markusphilippe, he comes just that bit closer to his sound ideal of reduction and transparency.

Markus Fritzsche gave up his medical studies halfway through for a music career. He's never regretted it for a minute.
A self-taught musician, he won a silver medal at the 1985 Cannes Film Festival for his music in the "Canada Dry Tough in the West" TV advert, his breakthrough in the film business. From then on he wrote the music for countless cinema films and TV advertisements, some of which were seen by half the world.

His best-known work in Switzerland: is the Migros jingle.

His "alter-ego" has always been as a bass player. It got him out of the studio into the wide world, to contact with people, to new challenges, and particularly to teamwork. Over the years he's played with many Swiss and international stars in every style imaginable, with highlights including the main stage at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
With Philippe Chrétien as his ideal partner, he's now reached a high point with sax-bass. In his typical, highly musical style.

Reto Bischofberger ​is an experienced drummer in many music styles consolidated in live and studio sessions. He played in numerous party and theatre combos and never denied his enthusiasm for the great music of Frank Zappa. Progressing through elements of Afro-American, Brazilian and other musical influences his drumming became the beauty of a rather minimal approach with subtle flow and phrasing. Somehow like a drifting dance floor that links together while swinging from grove to groove creating an open textured base for the other artists to celebrate a stunning dialogue. The latest collaboration 'markusphilippe plus bischi has a voice of its own. Listeners are invited to lay back and enjoy the integrity, quality and passion of this formidable trio.

The Best Of Tommy Schneider & Friends

Stunning sound, this LP record production is rock solid, lacking nothing! The New 2024 LP Record line-up Adrian Stern (guitars, percussion), Philippe Chrétien (saxophone) Massimo Buonanno (drums, percussion) and Tommy Schneider (Hammond organ, flute, percussion) - Tommy expressed the idea to remaster selected recordings from the three albums "move", "plan b3" and "hidden port", which were made with his friends, in order to get the last bit of sound out of the recordings.

The music includes the genres swing, acid jazz, blues, funk, soul, Latin, peppered with rock elements. In addition to contemplative moments, there are also times when things really get going. Mostly even within the pieces, which are thus arranged very entertaining. Mostly even within the pieces, which are thus arranged very entertaining. Six of the eight selected songs for "The best of" were composed by Tommy Schneider himself. In the selection of songs he can also be heard on the flute. His colleagues in the band are all brilliant as well, and the interplay is wonderful to listen to.

The tracks were wonderfully interpreted with electric guitar and saxophone solos and a Hammond organ that is always played appropriately. The tough bass line played by Tommy Schneider on the Hammond organ is striking. You can hear how well the four musicians harmonize and interact. The band leads very relaxed through the program. From the original master tape comes a round piece of album art to celebrate, really well done!

The sound aesthete runs, besides Tommy activity as a musician, the store "Hammond Times" in Zurich. Tommy Schneider other remarkable talent is shown by the fact that he can maintain and restore historical Hammond organs, as well as the Leslie cabinets that go with them, impeccably. In addition, he gives music lessons on the Hammond organ.

His appearances on Swiss television under his own name or as a band member with well-known Swiss musicians testify to his great musical skills. He has released several albums of his own. Philippe Chrétien, born in Basel in 1958, was first taught piano and trumpet and found the tenor saxophone in 1979. He developed his personal style. Listen to his unmistakable tone in harmony with his musical sensitivity. Motto: "He's got a killer sound!"

Hans Peter Bartsch, born in 1966, hails from the German Frankfurt am Main region. He is known as a session drummer and is also an excellent pianist. He plays in various music projects. His variability makes him a perfect fit for Tommy Schneider's music projects.

Massimo Buonanno, born in 1985 in Egnach (Switzerland), is a passionate live musician who, for example, played about 280 concerts in 2015 (with Seven, Gregor Meyle or Claude Diallo Situation, among others). At the turn of the year 2015 he played with Gregor Meyle at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin in front of a million people - and now from the tape for you in your living room.

Tommy Schneider, born in Zurich in 1962, works as a composer, flutist, Hammond organist and producer. He plays with various bands and can look back on a total of five released albums (four studio and one live recording). Listen to his masterfully played Hammond organ with all its tonal nuances.
