9 FACTS ABOUT MBALA TOWN ZAMBIA🇿🇲🇿🇲

1. It's the oldest district in Zambia discovered in 1890 and it was called ABERCON before the name changed to Mbala in 1968.

2. It sits at the boarder between Zambia and Tanzania.

3. The first fire in Africa was discovered at Kalambo falls in Mbala town.

4. The second world war ended in Mbala.

5. Lake Chila holds the original Machine guns that were used during the second world war.

6. Mbala is the home to ZAMBIA'S third largest Museum called Moto Moto museum.

7. It's home for the Mambwe Lungu speaking people who are believed to be Originated from east Africa.

8 It is home for ZAMBIA'S deepest water falls, Kalambo falls.

9. Mbala has the original paintings that were used by the san people.

ZAMBIA WINS 15 MEDALS AT THE 2023 AFRICAN GAMES

As the 2023 African Games come to a close in Accra, Ghana Team Zambia has recorded fifteen (15) medals in total in five sports disciplines.

In athletics Zambia has (3) medals, (1) Gold in the men’s 4x400 relay final, (1) silver in the men’s 400m final through Muzala Samukonga, and (1) silver in the women’s 4x400 relay final.

In boxing Zambia has (7) medals, (2) Gold medals through Patrick Chinyemba and Gerald Kabinda in the men’s 51kg & 67kg respectively, (3) silver medals through Mwengo Mwale, Andrew Chilata, and Emmanuel Katema in the men’s 54kg, 60kg & 63.5kg respectively and (2) bronze medals through Albert Ngulube in the men’s 57kg and Margret Tembo in the women’s 48kg.

In judo Zambia bagged (2) medals, (1) Gold through Steven Mung’andu in the men’s 66kg and (1) Bronze through Simon Zulu in the men’s 60kg.

Swimmer Mia Phiri showcased her prowess to win (2) bronze medals for swimming in the 50m women’s backstroke and 50m freestyle.

Taekwondo was not left out as it also recorded (1) bronze medal in the U30 men’s team.

It’s been a thrilling journey for Zambia in these games as most of the players did put up a wonderful performance for the nation.

Zambia has since been ranked 14th on the overall medal table at the African Games.

Between 1914 and 1919; during World War 1, the German imperial powers were on their way to the South of Tanganyika, towards Mbala area. As it being part of the ‘sphere of influence’, the British went ahead and fought against the Germans. Along side, was Lewanika’s son, Mwanawina. 2,000 Barotse troops under the command of then Crown Prince Mwanawina Lewanika helped end WW1 at Abercon (Mbala) in the British Crown Colony of Northern Rhodesia. Further influencing the shape of the map of Zambia to what it is today. Prince Mwanawina was later on in 1953 honoured by the British by Knighting, he became known as Sir Mwanawina.
