"Faith in God is the key to success"

It’s a May Blue Whale invasion! Yesterday appeared to be a major turning point in our whale watching seasons, as we saw at least 6 different Blue Whales as well as more than half a dozen Fin Whales on our signature 2.5 hour whale watches! And don’t be deceived by how some other companies report “sightings”(some companies will see one whale on 5 trips and call it 5 “whales”) when we tell you the number of whales we see, we are talking about true individual numbers of animals seen throughout the day! Based on our communication with other boats on the water, we estimate that there was at least 20-25 Blue and Fin Whales(combined) hanging around the greater San Diego area yesterday foraging on krill!

While many of you know June is the most reliable month to see Blue Whales with us, some years months like May, July, August, or September can also have excellent success! The true “best time” to see Blue Whales is when Blue Whales are here…and they’re here right now!! Reservations are super light this weekend, so come out and see the largest animal on earth with us!!

Whale watching to battle cancer: Saturday, September 28th, all of the proceeds from our gonewhalewatching whale watching trips will be donated to cancer research. You all may have seen this post in our story a week ago and thought it was funny to see our dog barking at the dolphins, but there’s more to the story:
Recently my wife and I have taken in her family dogs because her father has been battling Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma the past two years. To watch what this disease does to someone you love is devastating, but it is also far too familiar in families across the world. The dolphindronedom account has connected me with more people than I ever dreamed would be possible, and I’ve used it to try and be an advocate for our oceans and marine life. On September 28th, I would like to use that platform to do a little good for those families that are going through the same thing mine is. Let’s sell out the boat that day and do a little good as we enjoy one of our favorite past times. We will have trips at 8,11,2, and 5. If you were looking for a reason to go whale watching, I can’t think of a better one than this. •

Please share this post the way you’d share a breaching Humpback, or an Orca playing with a boat. Every little bit we do contributes to one day finding a cure for those who need it most.
-Capt. Dom

Most people have heard the phrase bow-riding before in reference to dolphins, but what happens when a 40ft Humpback decides it wants to try!? During our extended whale watch on Sunday, our guests were treated to the experience of a life time when a full-grown Humpback Whale decided it wanted to come over and swim next to us at extremely close range! Weather looks like it’s going to start behaving for the weekend, so who’s ready to do some post-holiday whale watching!?! Big thanks to seataceans for the great footage!

We have another Extended Whale Watch coming up next Sunday! These trips are your absolute best chance to encounter these magnificent animals up close and personal. Check out this incredible video taken by our passenger kylechristensenphotography on our last Extended Whale Watch a couple of weeks ago!

Now these are the seas we’ve been waiting for !

After hanging out with about 1,000 common dolphins we were treated to a surprise visit from a beautiful group of Risso’s Dolphins! This species is rarely surface active in our area, so it was a real thrill to see the largest animal with the word “dolphin” in its name breach out of the water!
You just never know what we’ll find out here.

What. A. Morning. For nearly the entire length of our 8am trip today we sat with our engine off as a Humpback Whale circled our boat at remarkably close range! We have limited space available at 2pm tomorrow and the conditions are supposed to be exceptional. Why not spend your Labor Day with us!? Capt. dolphindronedom with the shot

Who’s ready for more Gray Whales!?! After spending the mid-week off the water with Capt. Dom off in Hawaii filming Humpbacks, we’re back at it tomorrow looking for Gray Whales! All three trips are sold out as our sea conditions look fantastic! Our regular daily schedule picks back up on Monday and we hope to see you all on the water! Enjoy this video from an amazing trip we had last week!

23/12/2024

Cleared. For. Liftoff! The Humpback Whale action continued today with some incredible conditions and fantastic behaviors! Check out this awesome cell phone video from one of our passengers! Our new boat is getting its first tune up this week, but should be back in service by the weekend. We highly recommend booking a trip now! www.gonewhalewatching.com

One of the more exciting things that can happen during the winter months is mixed species interactions between Long Beaked Common Dolphins and Pacific White Sided Dolphins! Our first mate Erin Chandler girlmeetsshark was able to capture an amazing moment when we had BOTH species of dolphins swimming on the bow of our boat! We love when our passengers bring their GoPros along, because you never know what we might capture beneath the surface! We’ll be off the water today and tomorrow while we wait for the swell to come down for the weekend, but we hope you’ll join us next week as our reservations are very light midweek! Keep an eye out for those flash sales in our Instagram stories to potentially score a great discount! •

We want everyone in San Diego to know it's ALWAYS whale watching season here! One of the most frustrating comments we hear is that it's not "whale season". This couldn't be further from the truth. Our company launched on August 25th, 2019. Since then we have run 89 trips and encountered:
134 Humpback Whale sightings
33 Bryde's Whale sightings
14 Minke Whale sightings
2 Fin Whale sightings
90,000 Common Dolphins
265 Bottlenose Dolphins
785 Risso's Dolphins
880 Pacific White-Sided Dolphins

PLEASE SHARE SHARE SHARE this post as SO many people are unaware of what's right in our backyard here in San Diego! Don't ever let anyone tell you it's not whale watching season!
A gigantic thank you to everyone that contributed to this video including:
Domenic Biagini (dolphindronedom )
Erin Chandler (girlmeetsshark)
Delaney Trowbridge (seataceans)
Kyle Henderson (hendo_k)

Every single clip in this video is from one of our trips since August 25th!

My goodness do we love watching Pacific White-Sided Dolphins from our new and improved DolphinSeat! Did you know we’ve seen Whales on 39 consecutive trips!? Including 183(!) Gray Whales! This morning the calm sea conditions and warm weather made for some beautiful encounters with these Pacific White-Sided Dolphins and two very friendly robust Gray Whales! We still have space on Sunday, and the forecast is predicting lots of Gray Whales 😎

22/12/2024

Wait for it! Today the DolphinSeat turned into the Whale Seat! We had Humpback Whales on all three of our trips today, including Twitch and 4 other MASSIVE adult Humpbacks! Look closely after this behemoth whale’s tail throw, you can see him underwater doing a headstand!
Amazing video from our passenger jbunz in the dolphin seat with the rest of our guests!

While our signature 2.5 hour whale watch was enjoying a cow/calf pair of Humpback Whales in San Diego, Capt. dolphindronedom and erica.sackrison decided to take advantage of the wonderful weather and headed out to San Clemente Island! The island is a popular destination for our extended tours, so it was exciting to check out those outer waters! The highlight was an exuberant pod of Risso’s Dolphins in positively spectacular sea conditions! These were some of the most playful Risso’s we’ve ever encountered, and we couldn’t help but spend most of our morning with them! We have a few more Baja Extended Trips on the schedule through May, and we are looking forward to seeing what we can find! There was a report of Killer Whales about 80 miles south of us today, and that is in our range on those Baja Extended tours! Grab one of the few remaining spots this month before they’re gone to try your luck!

The ultimate “Wait for it” moment!

Huge shout out to tvbylange and makefreshproductions for bringing such good luck to our private charter last month! The film crew of codyprestontroxell and ah_cinema captured this awesome moment of Twitch the Humpback Whale launching himself out of the water right next to our boat! Be sure to check out the dolphindronedom page as well for an incredible slo-mo shot of this moment!

We had some of the most spectacular sea conditions imaginable today! While we did observe 10 Gray Whales on our one trip today, including one that breached right next to our boat...it was watching these Pacific White-Sided Dolphins swimming right at our fingertips in these serene seas that stole the show!

22/12/2024

Welcome to the world! Today a newborn baby Gray Whale was escorted south by some very playful Common AND Pacific White-Sided Dolphins! In one of the shots you can actually see both species of dolphins "snout riding" the whales at the same time. The Gray Whales have made their migration a little late this year, and it appears many of the pregnant mothers aren't quite making it to the lagoons in Baja before giving birth. We wish these beautiful cetaceans a safe journey on their way to Mexico!

Some trips we see more than we bargained for! We encountered some VERY amorous Pacific White-Sided Dolphins this morning...we think there’s some baby dolphins on the horizon! One of these dolphins is a San Diego local, easily identifiable by its missing dorsal fin! Outstanding GoPro footage by first mate Erin Chandler girlmeetsshark •
