27 The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.
Proverbs 17

This proverb teaches us that true wisdom is demonstrated through self-control in both speech and temper, not through being the loudest or most passionate. A person who thinks before they speak and remains calm under pressure shows more insight than someone who is easily provoked.

It also highlights the value of silence and thoughtful speech.

Let us learn to listen more & speak less. Be quick to listen and slow to speak, reflecting the advice in James 1:19.
Think before we speak. Consider our words carefully to ensure they are purposeful and not wasted or harmful.
Practice emotional control, calmness, especially when provoked. A calm spirit is a sign of wisdom and understanding.

Thank you Lord for your Word!

24 Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 16

The healing power of gracious words. Compares here to honeycomb which illustrates that gracious words are naturally sweet, pure, and nourishing, providing deep satisfaction and strength. Just as honey was historically valued for its healing properties, gracious words can act as a medicine for the soul, bringing a sense of peace and health.
This verse encourages us to be mindful of our speech, choosing to speak with kindness, grace, and positivity. This can foster better relationships and create a more supportive environment.

It also implies that speaking kindly benefits us (being the speaker) internally, not just the recipient.

Do our words promote health? Do we heal others by kind encouragement, wise counsel, and gentle comfort? Or are our words like a piercing sword (Pr 12:18)?

There is great power in the tongue, (Pr 18:21). How will we use it today?

7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge, but the hearts of fools are not upright.
Proverbs 15

This means wise people use their words to share understanding and truth. Spread knowledge, use words constructively, and have a heart of wisdom unlike the foolish who is unable to spread knowledge, full of folly, and produce harmful speech.

Words carefully chosen and wisely spoken are beautiful, for which both God and men will hold us in high esteem and favor (Pr 12:14,18; 15:23; 16:13,24; 22:11; 24:26; 25:11).

Our speech is evidence of our character, and it determines our influence in the world.

How will we affect others today by our talking? Will we increase their knowledge? Or will we fill their ears with noise and not profit them at all?

God gave us a heart and lips to praise Him and help others. He also gave Scripture to fill our hearts with knowledge, so we can have wonderful words to speak (Pr 22:17-21; Ps 119:146; II Tim 3:16-17).

Communication is a great privilege, a gift from the Lord. Use it wisely.

26 Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge. Proverbs 14

The "fear of the Lord" is not a fearful terror but a deep acknowledgment of God's sovereignty, holiness, and power. A recognition that God is in control of life and that His Word is the ultimate authority.

The strongest men and women on earth are those who fear the LORD, and they are also the safest men and women on earth. They obey and worship the LORD Jehovah, and they know He is always with them. For what fear can shake the man who leans on Jesus for repose (Pr 3:25-26)? With the angel of the LORD standing nearby, he will always be delivered (Ps 34:7-11). With his confidence in the LORD, his heart is fixed and established (Ps 112:6-8). The fear of man brings intimidation and worry, but the fear of God makes men bold (Heb 13:5-6)

The blessing of a God-fearing parent's life extends to their children, providing a spiritual and emotional haven or refuge for them. The parent's faithfulness creates a secure environment, an inherited strength for future generations

21 The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of sense.
Proverbs 10

Righteous lips, saturated with God's Word and inner truth, become a source of life and sustenance for those who are hungry for spiritual insight. It provides spiritual and practical nourishment to others through wise counsel and encouragement, in contrast to the destructive lack of wisdom found in unwise, which leads to their own ruin and the spiritual death of those who follow them.

It is the law of God to love others by correcting them when they need it (Lev 19:17). It is the duty of Christians to warn the unruly (I Thess 5:14) and save brethren from error (Jas 5:19-20). Righteous men & women will be trees of life and save the souls of many (Pr 11:30; 27:9).

2 Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Proverbs 7

How well do we protect our eye?

This proverb is a promise in a form of a command. God's teachings are extremely precious and must be protected with utmost care. Not only keep them so we may live, but, keep them as those that cannot live without them.

The phrase "as the apple of your eye" uses a metaphor for something of extreme preciousness and sensitivity. The eye's pupil was considered vital for sight and was instinctively guarded from harm. Guarding our lives from evil by keeping God's Word is very essential.

For the Lord detests the perverse
but takes the upright into his confidence. Proverbs 3

What is a perverse man? A man who goes counter to what is right; he is unreasonable, difficult to deal with, hard to please, and ungovernable. He is obnoxious and wicked. He breaks the rules and seems to never get caught. In fact, he is often honored and rewarded, as if his cheating were the profitable thing to do. He has no regard for others, and he uses them for whatever he can get from them. He may become powerful and successful, and you wonder if there is any reward for living a holy and righteous life (Ps 73:1-14). The warning is clear – do not choose his ways or choose to be with him. He is going down.

What is God’s secret, which He gives to the righteous? It is His personal presence and favors, which He grants to good men in ways the world cannot recognize. As men share intimate plans and rewards with their best friends, so the Lord shares His glory and blessings with holy men. He tells them by His Spirit about His love for them and of the unspeakable rewards He has waiting for them in heaven (Ps 25:14; I Cor 2:9; Gal 4:6-7).

6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2

There is only one Source of wisdom. All wisdom is from the LORD God, and He gives it to whomsoever He will. Knowledge and understanding are also His gifts, and He speaks them by His Spirit, word, and servants. Wisdom is not measured by IQ, degrees, or achievements. Wisdom is superior to these. Wisdom and character are worth more than intelligence.

What can you do to obtain wisdom? Humble yourself and confess your great ignorance and helplessness. Then you must ask for it.

Go to Jesus Christ, for in Him are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col 2:3).

God bless you
