As we prepare for the 134th festival we’d like to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of all our volunteers that make Íslendingadagurinn possible, and especially our Board of Directors that put in countless hours and work leading up to the big weekend 👏🏻

Aldís Amah Hamilton stars as police detective Aníta Elínardóttir in "Black Sands," an Icelandic crime noir series that will premiere in North America on Viaplay on July 20. Aldís co-wrote the 8-part series with veteran Icelandic detective Ragnar Jónsson, and Viaplay has already booked a second season.

“We want people to understand that [‘Black Sands’] is so important in so many ways," Aldís told The New York Post. "It might change the landscape of how people view our nation. In Iceland … all kinds of people are accepted, and we want to do our part to fight the fact that some people feel unseen here. We’re still small enough that one [series] can make a ripple in the water."
