I watched Season 1 in one sitting, and I love love LOVE getting to have q***r characters that aren't about their tragic q***rness or struggles with identity. Oe-dimensional pity characters or tragedy narratives often dominate our media to exploit our mistreatment, the only thing that larger audiences seem fascinated with. But increasingly there are q***r folx popping up in all sorts of shows, and this one specifically I love because Ava's character in particular is SUCH an as***le, and it is delightful to watch unlikeable characters, and doubly delightful that she is not the only q***r in the cast, nor is her q***rness the centre of her narrative. While its nominally about comedy, the centre of this show is that both these people are just terrible.

Overt allyship is important, but one of the most important things to stand out in this article is the reminder that artists like Ariana Grande also have 2SLGBTQIA+ colleagues, collaborators, relatives. The more people remember that we walk among you, the better- but also, when you're ready to hate on the numerous unknown members of our community remember we don't exist in isolation. There are people who are our brothers and mothers and coworkers and employees out there, and we're not some shameful secret. There are people out there ready to go to bat for us and you cannot count on being among people who share your hate just because they aren't explicitly members of our communities.

Grande isn’t just another friend of the community, she’s among the best of the bunch.
