Today’s show is a true blue ‘hump day special’!
I will be revisiting some of my Valentine classic favorites, like Harry P***y and Art Phag among others for all the star-crossed lovers out the. But the show will not be ‘blue’ in the ‘blue’ or ‘hump’ sense, it might be a bit more ‘blue’ in the bittersweet sense because this is going to be my last show for a while folks.
The Fiji Mermaid is going on hiatus for about nine months while I work on my MA and re-find the music that I love.
This is a big deal, because I have been hosting the show since 2011! I have sincerely enjoyed meeting so many of you, chatting with such talented individuals and being part of so many people’s drives home each week.
Part of me is going to miss making and sharing all the dirty jokes on air, but part of me knows I will just have more to share when I come back :)
You might be able to guess what the secret word is today, but to be sure you will have to tune in to find out!
So for now, so long and thanks for all the fish ;)
Xox The Fiji Mermaid
**Please note I will make very special and rare exceptions for very special and rare people (wink wink) and will host the odd live band on the occasional Friday, just send me a message!**
Also The Fiji Mermaid Instagram and FaceBook page will be places where I share silly things I find in my stories, with posting going on pause. I will be posting my MA ideas, life and fun related posts to my other account .g.o.d.e.a.t.h.
And as a finale…… Step Right up! Step Right Up and see with your ears (and eyes) the FIJI MERMAID! I have a few photos of myself through the ages while hosting The Fiji Mermaid, in contrast to where I am today
Photos:
Slide 1: See the baby Fiji Mermaid with your own eyes! Here I am in 2012 working on an elective art class project, I had been hosting the show for about a year!
Slide 2: This is me late one night at the station in 2012 (mohawk still intact) hosting the “Big Broadcast”
Slide 3: This is a true vintage moment in 2015 when I was asked what my favorite record was in a CFUV interview, Art Phag at that moment.
Slide 4: This is from last week when I took my pal Dersu to the CFUV library for the first time! She got a snap of me with more current favorite album, Jandek Foreign Keys.
Slide 5: This is last March when I dropped by Alex Solunac’s Loud Fast and Out of Control (Friday nights) with my stray cat Oreo.
Slide 6: This was from July, in the hot seat flipping the switches, lucky me this photo made it into the Uvic Fine Arts Department Impact Report!
Slide 7: Me during the summer on Galiano living my best life in a cave (thank you Sara for making that possible)
Slide 8: And this is me today, holding a few books that are occupying a great deal of my time since they are related to my MA research.
