Ray has played in several events throughout his career, such as band recitals and contests, bar/restaurant gigs, classical piano recitals, accompanying singers/violinists, chamber music recitals, original music shows and more! Having studied classical piano, his music is greatly influenced by classical music, but also by his Mexican roots and mostly by an always-present Alternative rock sound influenced by bands like Muse, Keane, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, etc.

Alex Hernandez, originally from Concepción, Chile. His journey began at the Chilean-Arabic School, where he actively participated in various school music projects. During his university years, Alex dedicated his free time to studying jazz drumming and exploring the world music genre with the Alminar Ensemble, a group that performed music from Europe and the Middle East.

In 2015, Alex pursued studies in Jazz Interpretation at the Superior School of Jazz for six months. Concurrently, he delved into Indian classical music, focusing on mastering the Indian Tabla. This diverse training has equipped Alex with a broad musical palette and a deep appreciation for different musical traditions.

Throughout his career, Alex has been involved in various projects across multiple genres, including flamenco, jazz, and rock. His most notable work includes playing with the progressive rock band Inilia, with whom he recorded two albums. One of these albums was honored with a Ceres Award for Best Album of Pop Music 2018-2019 in the Concepción province. Alex also distinguished himself as a drummer in the Balkan music band La Tromba, contributing to their album recording.

Now residing in Vancouver, Canada, Alex continues to thrive as a musician. He collaborates with Lussilia, a Venezuelan Canadian singer, blending pop, traditional Venezuelan music, flamenco, and Latin rhythms. Additionally, Alex is a member of The Hipponauts jazz quartet and participates in the VSO Jazz Combos program, further honing his jazz skills.

Charlie is a Spanish musician whose career started as a young child attending music school to receive classical training in music theory and piano. Upon graduating, he decided to take on learning guitar on his own with a brand new approach, experimenting with jazz, blues and rock ‘n’ roll for the last 10 years while touring as a musician with several theatre companies and actively pursuing new styles and techniques.

Raised in the mountains of BC, Lila Gray calls Vancouver home. Through her heartfelt lyrics and skillful songwriting, Lila plumbs the depths of her young adulthood and explores the trials and tribulations of q***r womanhood in the 21st century. This young artist found her passion, and eternal love for music at the tender age of five, when she started her classical training through cello. Since then, Lila has picked up singing, songwriting, and guitar to establish her presence as a musician. Shortly after placing in the Top 100 of the 2021 CBC Searchlight Competition, Lila took off to Montreal to pursue a formal education in audio engineering and sound production. Lila’s unique production and intricate lyricism are masterfully executed in her sophomore album Wild Tension, which garnered a collective 10,000 streams on Spotify and a well attended coast to coast Canadian tour this past fall.

Francis Baptiste is a singer songwriter of the Syilx (see-ilks) people. He talked to us about dealing with alcoholism and being a single parent, how that has influenced his creative process, performances and efforts to reconnect with his heritage. He also talked to us about writing music and singing in Nsyilxcən [nah-silk-sen], which is currently spoken by approximately 150 people. His sophomore LP, set to release later this year feature songs in the endangered language.

Ben Worcester is a singer-songwriter, guitar player and one of the lead vocals for the Juno-winning band from Vancouver, Said the Whale. He talked to us about his creative process through writing music with Tyler Bancroft, also lead vocals and guitar player for Said the Whale. We discussed their first EP, touring through North America, and the band’s future plans. Said the Whale will be playing a sold-out show in Vancouver on April 5th.
