Apologies on the lack of content this month. I've volunteered to help organize the Canadian WTC team for 2024 and the timeline is aggressive. We will be doing the last few interviews shortly.

I will be streaming games tomorrow from our game day.

Cheers kids

I recorded a special bonus discussion this week with Dan from Tried and True. We've been chatting over discord quite a bit about the new steamroller preview document after consuming quite a bit of information about it.

This one is a little less traditional and full of opinions and hot takes, but I had fun making it and I hope you enjoy.

You can find the cast here:

I'll be taking a bit of a break over the next few weeks. I'm currently recovering from the flu and life is just crazy right now as I'm sure it is for everyone.

We will return in the new year with our Cascadia Championship Series winner for 2023 and ill be closing up the audio cast very shortly after that.

Cheers everyone. I wish you all a very happy season.

Hey Nerds. This recording is a less traditional Shop Talk episode that I did with Dan from Tried and True. It's an extension of a discord discussion we felt would function better over voice. On episode 31 of Shop Talk I sit down with Loren Lower who is the organized play and playtest manager for Privateer Press. Since Loren is local to our wider meta here in the Pacific Northwest, it was a natural fit.

We chat primarily about the steamroller 2024 preview that was shared on the community hub at Warfaire Weekend, and go over some of the goals, and changes to steamroller moving into the future. We discuss terrain and objectives, and I ask some more abstract questions about how the document is going to address some of the big issues in event play right now and moving into the new year.

Hey Nerds.

On episode 30 of Shop Talk I sit down with Cory, one of the team members for Canada at the World Team Championships.

We chat about the lead up, travel, and give a round by round replay of the event in Copenhagen this past fall from the perspective of our hometown hero.

We end of with some plans and aspirations for next year. If you are interested in helping or pursuing team Canada's WTC team for 2024 in Duesseldorf, please get in contact with us. We want to chat!

Hey Nerds.

Its a holiday Monday in Canada so I'm a little slow with this one.

On episode 29 of Shop Talk I sit down with Patrick, who lives in the far off land of Halifax, on the eastern coast of Canada.

Patrick was an active miniature wargamer in Vancouver for many years until he moved back east a few years ago. We chat about wargaming in a remote but commercial city, balancing family and wardollies, and cover legacy legion and a bit of Kymera (khymera? Chimera? Whatever).

This was a fun interview to do. Patrick and I have a lot of similarities when it comes to interacting with warmachine, and I think we had good podcast chemistry.

Cheers ad I hope you enjoy.

On episode 28 of Shop Talk I sit down with Luke Rowan, who has gone from returning casual to practiced competitor in just a few short months.

Luke has attended most of the events we have been holding out here and has made practice and participation a priority. We chat about directed practice and his perspectives on using events to incrementally see success.

Hi everyone.

This year Wet Coast GT is returning to BC as a convention weekend March 29th and 30th (that's the Friday and Saturday of the Easter Weekend).

We will have Warmachine tables at the event next year.

Its very early but because of the dates we want to make sure everyone knows about it.

All the info is here. Please make sure to share with your groups. It's a private event so invite away. I'm happy to answer any questions.

The earlier people buy tickets the more tables we can secure. I have 10 currently but if we don't sell enough tickets we will lose those.

You can look forward to a 2 day event. Close to we will decide on what formats we are using. I'd like to run a casual/thematic event on Friday and a steamroller on Saturday.

On episode 27 of Shop Talk I sit down with Maxime, who is one of the organizers in Quebec City, a small but important city in Eastern Canada about 400 miles north of Boston.

As one of the few remaining large Canadian groups still running events in Canada, we explore a little about how the group survived the edition change and talk about how events and game nights are structured.

We cover the St. Lawrence open, a recent mini con in Montreal, as well as a host of other topics, from language barrier to list discussion. This was a super fun one to record, and I'm excited to keep bringing more people from across the country onto the airwaves.

We are comming up on a year of recording episodes for Shop Talk and almost 5000 hits (according to the tracking from podomatic) which is pretty special to me.

I always conceptualized Shop Talk as a series as opposed to an ongoing podcast. I kind of built it to naturally run out of gas once the limited scope of guests was, in my mind exhausted. I really wanted to create something that was topical to our group and focused on the topics that were prevalent in the meta. It became a bit of a documentary of the first year in mark 4 for our group. I'm really happy with how it's turned out.

This endeavor was both to try and breathe some life into the local group at the edition change and as a personal challange. I've always struggled with executing ideas and finishing the things I start.

I feel like, to a large extent I've met some of those goals.

The point of all of this is to kinda begin the end of Shop Talk. I really feel like the topics are starting to get a touch repetitive and finding guests is getting more challenging. Furthermore, the interest has waned and I'm not really interested in convincing people to talk to me.

I'm starting to feel like what I want to say and champion is outside of what people are interested in hearing or talking about right now. And maybe I'm a bit out of touch. It's not like we are running a ton of events or bringing in new players or running demos or echoing a mentality of unwavering support for Privateer Pess. Even though I've aways wanted to see the game succeed I've always felt that looking at things realistically and practically is important. The sad reality is that costs are going up and listenership is down. I think its time to wrap this thing up.

So the plan moving forward is to finish up in December of this year with a few more interviews along the way. I'd like to cover Kippers' Melee that is happening next weekend, and I have a interview lined up with a couple metas in Eastern Canada. I'm hoping we can have some of team Canada on to cover WTC this year, and finally Neil and I will chat about Cascadia as a final episode.

As always I'd love to chat with anyone about anything warmachine related.

Thanks to everyone that listened to our silly opinions. I've enjoyed doing this podcast.

I'll catch you around.
