Shaivalini is the author of "The Future of Tech: What Apple Can Learn from Japan" which explores the principles of Japan's Womenomics.

She says of her NBR experience: "Writing for NBR gave me the opportunity to explore strategies for issues in and beyond business with the support of a dedicated team. In my article, I applied political concepts to business solutions by connecting my interest in Japan's Womenomics Policy to workplace solutions for women's empowerment. What I most enjoyed about the writing process was the constructive feedback received from the editors - very grateful for their guidance and support! This past year I was a Women’s Economics Empowerment Intern with UN Women Asia-Pacific - my experience with NBR was a great talking point to demonstrate my interest in the area and region!"

Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities with NBR!

We hear Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) thrown around a lot. But what do authentic EDI strategies actually look like? What does EDI mean for students as the next generation of workers? Why should law schools care about EDI, and how can it be used to improve the Law school standardized testing market? Check out our two articles below:

Canadian startups have built great momentum in the past few months from coast to coast. This past quarter was the strongest ever for VC investment, with CAD $2.7B invested. Yet, accomplishments from across Canada often get lost in the noise of news about larger U.S. markets or Toronto. We highlight the strengths of Atlantic Canada, the Prairies, and the Northwest in an attempt to build the discourse around these often overlooked areas and showcase recent innovations.

Excited to highlight two articles from our latest issue: what do Canada’s Big Banks and Live Nation have in common? Restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of digital have altered consumer behaviour. We recommend that Live Nation focus on winning in the arena of live entertainment while banks should reconfigure their operations to focus on digital. Two different ideas but both powered by AI, machine learning, and predictive analytics. Read more below:

There is no place for anti-Asian racism or xenophobia in this world. In response to the violent anti-Asian racism in Atlanta, we offer our support and stand in solidarity with members of the Asian communities at UBC. UBC Equity & Inclusion is holding an event tomorrow, inviting those impacted by the ongoing anti-Asian violence to join in community and reflection.

All links are in the comments, including a link to an article about anti-Asian racism in Vancouver written by Peter A. Allard School of Law and UBC Sauder Distinguished Professor Carol Liao in May 2020. She will be moderating a discussion this Sunday with the authors of the book ‘Challenging Racist “British Columbia: 150 Years and Counting’, who will share how they hope the illustrated resource will be used by educators and activists interested in doing anti-racist work.
