Happiness Tip:

Board games seem like a trivial thing that probably doesn’t make much of a difference to our long-term well-being. However, we know that fun social activities are declining all over the world and being replaced by screen time. Board games are a great way to spend more time with groups of people and increase well-being. It is important to select the right game for the group. Some groups like skill or knowledge based games. Others need to be games that have more luck involved so that no one feels at a disadvantage. It can also be good to find games that have teams, bluffing or anything that causes a lot of laughter. One good game type helps everyone learn about other players, such as games that ask “Would you rather do this or that?”

How can I process my hurtful experiences?
Source: Happiness Tips

Therapy is often the best option because a therapist can tailor it specifically to your needs. However, many self-help exercises are also available. There are many apps, books and workbooks that address either specific areas of unprocessed hurtful experiences such as abuse or having narcissistic parents and there are also general mental health apps that help with a wider assortment of issues. If you don't know where to start, first search for apps or books on specific past hurtful events that pertain to you such as a divorce. If those don't feel applicable, then search for general help with terms like "CBT", "DBT", or simply "mental health apps or books".

Over the last 30 years, people in western countries started spending far less time in regular social situations like religious groups, weekly bowling leagues or game night. Scientists believe this reduction in socialization is a primary driver of mental health issues like anxiety and depression. Try to find regular activities with others that are with a group of people that won't emotionally ambush you (emotionally safe) and that display moral behavior.

Omicron symptoms: What we know about illness caused by the new variant
Symptoms of omicron may be different than those of previous strains. But it's still Covid, and it can still cause severe disease.

Early evidence suggests that for most people, at least those who are up to date on their Covid vaccines, omicron appears to cause milder illness that can resemble the common cold, another form of the coronavirus.

Perhaps the most common way to cultivate close friendships is to have recurring activities together. A problem with meeting just to talk is that you “catch up” and run out of things to say. If you have a regular activity, like some form of exercise (walking, hiking, playing basketball, etc.) or a recurring game (cards, bowling, etc.), then you aren’t pressured to have new, interesting topics because the primary goal is the activity itself.

Remember to:

• Keep a safe distance ↔️
• Wear a well-fitting mask 😷
• Open windows; avoid poorly ventilated, crowded spaces 🪟
• Wash hands often 🧼
• Cough, sneeze into a bent elbow/tissue 🤧

If you are unvaccinated and able to be vaccinated, WHO recommends you do so. Encourage others to do the same.

Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities!

Let’s remember that persons with disabilities are disproportionately impacted by crisis such as conflict, natural disasters, and pandemics.

Persons with disabilities must have a leading role in shaping the new post-COVID world, so it includes principles of inclusion and diversity.

*A Prayer for the People of Afghanistan*

Lord, we lift up the people of Afghanistan to you right now.

We pray that you would take hold of them and help them walk through this fearful time. Protect them under your wing and help them feel the comfort and peace that only comes from your powerful presence.

So many people who have called this place their home have been displaced because of this event. Remind them, Lord, that their true home is in Heaven with you. Give those who believe in you the courage to stand strong in their faith and be a strong witness for you. Also, be with those who do not believe in you – help them to see the peace in your followers and allow the Holy Spirit to stir in their hearts as they witness this.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. "All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. (Isaiah 41:10-12)

July is !

Spending time outside is a great way to be physically active, reduce stress and get vitamin D. While catching those summer ☀️ rays, don't forget to protect yourself from the risk of cancer and other disease burden due to UV radiation.

Here is some information regarding UV safety:

Ultraviolet radiation from the sun causes a considerable global disease burden, including specific cancers, a new World Health Organization (WHO) report finds. Much of the UV-related illness and death can be avoided through a series of simple prevention measures.
