NEW EPISODE!!!
We continue our look at Nothing Blockbusters with 2001’s The Mexican; the first, long-awaited pairing of superstars Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. A Pairing that audiences would not see again until (check notes)… 8 months later when they would both appear in Ocean’s Eleven. Pitt plays Jerry, a low-level goon working for mob boss Bernie (Bob Balaban), who has sent him to Mexico to retrieve a fabulous cursed pistol, much to the anger of his long-suffering girlfriend Sam (Roberts). Fed up with his inability to commit, Sam zooms off to Vegas while Jerry tracks down the infamous firearm, and loses it just as fast. Looking to influence Jerry, Bernie sends soulful hitman Leroy (James Gandolfini) to intercept Sam’s vacation and take her hostage. Can Jerry get it together and find the gun before his lady love meets with an unfortunate accident? Will Sam find a new BFF in the surprisingly insightful Leroy? Will James Gandolfini walk away with this entire movie, as he did most films he was in?

NEW EPISODE!!
The podcast is going Hollywood, as we start our new miniseries on Nothing Blockbusters; films that got wide releases with big stars that nonetheless have vanished from the public conversation regarding movies people talk about. To start things off, we’re discussing the first film ever released by studio Dreamworks. When a rogue Russian general causes two passenger trains to collide and set off a nuclear warhead, killing thousands in the process, the world governments are on high alert, but blind to the actual crime; the theft of 10 more nuclear warheads. All blind that is except for Colonel Thomas Devoe (Clooney) and Dr. Julia Kelly (Nicole Kidman), who are on the case and jet-setting all over Europe in a white-knuckle, paranoid nuclear thriller that takes them from Vienna to Azerbaijan, all the way home to New York City, baybee! We watch Mimi Leder’s THE PEACEMAKER, on this episode of Nothing Movies.

WrestleMAYnia, All WWE Studios, All Sequels month concludes with the fourth chapter of WWE’s longest running franchise, The Marine. Taking over from John Cena and Ted DiBiase Jr and following the story from his own The Marine 3, Mike “The Miz” Mizanin returns as Jake Carter, in his second of four adventures. This go-around, Jake finds himself working security for a private firm, hired to protect whistleblower Olivia (Melissa Roxburgh) from the shadowy organization known as Genesis. But when Mercenary for hire Vogel (Josh Blacker) and his team of killers (including WWE Diva Summer Rae) track them down and wipe out the rest of the detail, Jake and Olivia are on the run through the British Columbia wilderness (oops, I mean, Washington…), trying to stay one step ahead of a bullet. It’s a low-rent Rambo as The Marine fills a forest with traps, and prove once again that a good Marine is hard to kill. We watched William Kaufman’s THE MARINE 4: MOVING TARGET, on this episode of Nothing Movies.

NEW EPISODE!!
WrestleMAYnia, All WWE Productions, All Sequels month continues with the second sequel to 2009’s 12 Rounds; a movie about John Cena being forced to play a deadly game to save his wife. This time around, there’s no wife to save or game to play, instead, the 12 Rounds of the title refer to how many bullets are in our hero’s gun. John Shaw (Dean Ambrose) is a haunted cop who survived a shooting that killed his rookie partner. His first day back on the force is met with sneers and disdain from his fellow cops. But when crooked cop Burke (Roger Cross) and his squad of no-good cronies (including Daniel Cudmore, Kirby Morrow and Nothing Movies favourite Lochlyn Munro) find out that Shaw is in possession of a credit card-shaped flash drive containing evidence of their many crimes, they put the police station on lockdown and trap Shaw inside. But little do they realize, he isn’t trapped in there with them; they’re trapped in etc etc you get the idea. We watched Stephen Reynolds’ 12 ROUNDS 3: LOCKDOWN, on this episode of Nothing Movies.

NEW EPISODE!!
It’s time once again for WrestleMAYnia; our favourite miniseries of the year with the sweatiest of titles (you really gotta HIT that third syllable). This year: All WWE Productions, ALL SEQUELS!!! NO WE HAVEN’T SEEN THE ORIGINALS, CONTINUITY IS FOR THE WEAK!!! First up, a Steve Austin-less follow up to 2007s The Condemned; with none of the original stars and basically none of the plot set-up either. This time around, we follow bail enforcer Will Tanner (Randy Orton), who following an incarceration following a bust gone wrong that results in the death of crime lord Cyrus (Wes Studi, in-and-out of this movie so fast!), has found himself back in his hometown, living with his disappointed father Frank (Eric Roberts). But when his old friends from his bounty hunting days begin showing up and hunting him down, Tanner realizes he is in the center of a sadistic game spearheaded by Cyrus’ Number #2 Raul (Steven Michael Quezada); where criminals make bets on who lives, who dies, how they die and who does the killing. Tanner must survive the game long enough to escape the desert island filled with murderers, psychopaths and Vinnie Jones…of I’m sorry, that’s the first film. This film mostly takes place in an Arizona desert. FUN! We watch Roel Reiné’s THE CONDEMNED 2, on this episode of Nothing Movies presents… WrestleMAYnia!!!

NEW EPISODE!!
We wrap up our miniseries on failed TV Pilots turned TV movies not by spotlighting an actor, but instead, a machine. Robosaurus is a transforming, fire-breathing robot dinosaur created by inventor Doug Malewicki in 1989 for use in various monster truck rallies and state fair’s across the U S of A, and in 1992, producers worked their magic to create a prime-time sci-fi adventure series starring the titular car-crusher, and were able to produce this pilot before their realization that this would likely end up being the most expensive show in television history. Set in a dystopian future where global warming is cooking the planet, Steel Justice follows David Nash (Robert Taylor), a detective still reeling from his son’s senseless gangland murder by rocket launcher and his subsequent divorce. David is having dreams; visions one might call them. Visions of a magical black man named Jeremiah J. Jones (J.A. Preston); a centuries old “guide” who has helped various figures throughout history, from the druids of Stonehenge to Achilles at the Trojan War, realize their potential and the hidden ability within themselves to manifest their hearts truest desires into tangible reality. Nash finds himself on the trail of crimeboss Col. Edward Rollin Duggins (Roy Brocksmith), who is about to flood the streets with the same brand of bazooka that killed his boy. Can Jeremiah get through to David in time and help him realize his destiny; to take his son’s beloved Robosaurus toy and magically manifest it into a gigantic, fire-breathing weapon of ultimate destruction? I mean, they didn’t hire Robosaurus to be in this thing for nothing! From the screenwriter of The Last of the Mohicans, we watched Christopher Crowe’s STEEL JUSTICE aka ROBOSAURUS, on this episode of Nothing Movies.

NEW EPISODE!!
We have hit that benchmark in our podcasting journey where it is finally time to discuss the one, the only, Nicolas “Hi-F**kin-Ya!” Cage, and we’re going allllll the way back to the very beginning with his first credited acting role; 1981’s failed TV pilot The Best of Times. Styled as a sort of Rowan and Martin Laugh-In/ Mickey Mouse Club for Teens, we follow the gang as they goof around, share painful truths about themselves, and get into a whole mess of fun! Also marking the film debuts of Crispin Glover and Scream Queen Jill Schoelen with a special guest appearance by Jackie Mason, The Best of Times is a charming time capsule that proves implicitly that Cage was fully formed from the outset; his screen persona literally has not changed a bit in the decades since. And if it feels like I still haven’t explained the plot yet….that’s THE BEST OF TIMES, baby! Directed by Don Mischer. As our TV Pilot turned TV Movie miniseries continues on Nothing Movies.

NEW EPISODE!!
We lost one of the great ones recently, so we honor this titan of the industry by looking back at this 1990 TV movie. Kyle Western (Carl Weathers) is a security expert and handyman who needs some quick cash to pay for some land down in Napa, and as a result falls into doing odd-jobs for dangerous gangster Lou (Billy Dee Williams). When Kyle takes the heat for murdering an assassin out to ice Lou, he’s brought into the criminal’s inner circle, and becomes dangerously close with Lou’s two greatest loves; his wife Meg (Lonette McKee), and more importantly, his classic 1939 Bugati. Soon Kyle and Meg have entered into a…DANGEROUS PASSION, and go on the run, but Lou will stop at nothing to track them down. Boy, typing this plot out sure makes it seem like nothing happens in this movie, but there’s some stuff here, trust us, it gets a little weird. We watched Michael Miller’s DANGEROUS PASSION on this episode of Nothing Movies.

NEW EPISODE!!
We conclude our look back at the Python’s non-Python related cinematic excursions by discussing the directing career of the man who helmed all the original Python motion pictures, Terry Jones, as he brings us his twisted take on a beloved children’s classic. Released as MR. TOAD’S WILD RIDE and released by Disney in North America, it’s a charming tale of Animal friends, generational wealth, anti-establishment and grand theft auto. When the house of Mole (Steve Coogan) is destroyed by the greedy Weasel’s, he seeks help from his three friends; easy-going, picnic-loving Rat (Eric Idle), anti-social grouch Badger (Nicol Williamson), and the manic, mile-a-minute miscreant Mr. Toad of Toad Hall (Jones), who hijacks the narrative through his love of racing motor-cars, stealing motor-cars and crashing motor-cars. A jail-break leads to an all-out fight with the Weasel’s to save Toad Hall from being blown to smithereens. Barrels of Bones, frisky Rabbits and bizarre musical numbers await, as we watch Terry Jones’ THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS, on this episode of Nothing Movies.

NEW EPISODE!!
Graham Chapman was often the lead of the Python pictures, but the one and only time he got to head a film outside the troupe was this 1983 feature co-starring a murderer’s row of the best comic talent alive at the time; a mix of fellow Python’s John Cleese and Eric Idle, regular Mel Brooks collaborator’s like Madeline Kahn, Peter Boyle, Kenneth Mars and Marty Feldman (in his final screen appearance), British legends like Peter Cook, Spike Milligan and James Mason, and both Cheech AND Chong are here. David Bowie even pops in for a cameo. The guest list is stacked, but unfortunately, nobody remembered to pack any jokes. Not a single laugh can be found in this floundering Pirate adventure, but I’ll tell you what is here; a REMARKABLE amount of s*xual assault gags! Hoo Boy, this was a hard one to sit through folks! Improvisor and Comedian Maddy Rafter is our guest as we watch Mel Damski’s YELLOWBEARD, on this episode of Nothing Movies.

NEW EPISODE!!
We’re getting back into trilogies in 2024, and we’re kicking things off by spotlighting possibly the most influential sketch-comedy troupe of all time…by spotlighting the movies they were in together following the end of the flying circus. First up: Eric Idle writes and stars as Tommy Patel; the meek son of an east-Asian shop owner who discovers to his horror that he is adopted and is in fact…white! What’s more, he’s the long lost Duke of Bournemouth; who was left in a restaurant when he was a baby and swapped with the current next-in-line, obnoxious American Henry (Rick Moranis). Now Tommy has murder on the mind, spurred on by greedy lawyer Shadgrind (John Cleese). But can he knock Henry off by making it look like an accident, while fending off the romantic advancements of both Henry’s fiancée Kitty (Catherine Zeta-Jones), and Tommy’s own unknowing biological mother Lucinda (Barbara Hershey)? Sketch comedian Andrew Lynch is our guest as we watch Robert Young’s SPLITTING HEIRS, on Nothing Movies!

NEW EPISODE!!
An episode that has been long on the books finally manifests itself as a Holiday miracle for our final episode of the year, and gives us an opportunity to talk about the late, great P.Swayz. Wayne Saunders (Swayze) has recently moved his family from LA to Edmonton, and while wife Judy (Rachel Hayward) is busy winning bread back home, Wayne has one day to organize the perfect family Christmas in their new home; much to the chagrin of his bratty sons Danny (Cameron Bright) and Brian (Matthew Knight), and the alarm of daughter Mary (Amy & Zoe Schlagel), who is convinced Santa won’t find them at their new address. A trip to West Edmonton Mall for some last minute shopping leads to Brian and Mary coming into possession of a bag of counterfeit money, lost by a pair of bumbling criminal brothers Leonard and Sheldon(Chris Kattan and Preston Lacy). While the kids go on a wild shopping spree and the Cardoza Bros try to appease criminal mastermind Ginger (Carmen Electra), Danny finds love with a local girl while Wayne’s questionable parenting is put under scrutiny by mall security head Gordon McLoosh (Tim Curry). Terrifying CGI Elves, endless shopping montages and a cheeky, teleporting Santa Claus make up this future holiday classic. Hannah Snyder returns as our guest and reveals which Swayze flick is in her Top 10 of all movies, as we watch James Orr’s CHRISTMAS IN WONDERLAND, on this episode of Nothing Movies.

NEW EPISODE
The Bride herself is our subject this episode, as we suffer through a painful heist comedy that impressively manages to have zero likeable characters. Harriet Fox (Thurman) and her boozy husband Peter (Tim Roth) have just gambled away a bag of money belonging to murderous gangster Irina (Maggie Q), so they fly from London to LA to try and make some quick cash with crooked fence Sidney (Stephen Fry). After landing, they learn Peter’s ex-wife Jackie (Alice Eve) is now married to movie director Gabriel (Crispin Glover), who has bought her a ring worth $6.75 million following his affairs with both his leading lady (Sofia Vergara) and personal assistant (Parker Posey). But can sozzled Peter seduce Jackie long enough to make the steal, or will Harriet have to go undercover to play dog whisperer to Jackie’s difficult Chihuahua? It’s 2003, and studios are trying their hardest to emulate the success of The Fast and the Furious. Enter our story of family ties and sick motorcycle races. Smoke (Laurence Fishburne) is the undisputed motorcycle King of Cali; respected among all the local clubs. But gunning for his crown is Kid (Derek Luke), son of Smoke’s old friend and mechanic Slick Will (Eriq La Salle), who died in a tragic crash three years previous. Now Kid is back on the scene with his own club; the Biker Boyz, and Kid won’t be happy until Smoke’s crown is his own. Orlando Jones, Djimon Hounsou, Lisa Bonet, Terrence Howard and Kadeem Hardison make up an impressive supporting cast, and Kid Rock is… also here. NEW EPISODE!!
We wrap up another elongated Halloween season by looking at the lighter, funnier side of the Holiday with one of our favourite funnymen and co-creator of the greatest romantic zombie comedy of all time. He’s back, and he’s taking on the private school system. When new student Don (Finn Cole) begins attending Slaughterhouse Academy, he’s overwhelmed with your standard private school fears; finding common ground with your weird new roommate (Asa Butterfield), falling for the prettiest girl in the upper terms (Hermoine Corfield), avoiding the sadistic head boy (Tom Rhys Harries), and battling an underground army of flesh-hungry, mutant mole/dog creatures. The latter is due to the fracking on school grounds approved by an unhinged headmaster (Michael Sheen) and barely tolerated by Houseman (Pegg), the lone teacher remaining with a conscience. Nick Frost and Margot Robbie drop by to witness the bloodshed, as Pegg and Frost’s new production company try to hit that horror/comedy bullseye again. Erik Gow (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow/ Resident Evil 4 Remake) is our guest as we watch Crispian Mills’ SLAUGHTERHOUSE RULEZ, on Nothing Movies.

NEW EPISODE!!
We peel back the prosthetics and get to know Doug Jones, one of cinema’s most beloved creature inhibitors, by watching one of his rare performances outside the rubber suit. When DoP Morgan (Michael Chandler) and his Sound Tech best friend Cricket (Dick Spenneberg) are hired to work on a ghost hunting reality show at an abandoned house out in the wilderness, they think they’re in for some easy money. Shortly after meeting eccentric director DJ (Jerome Murdock), buxom hosts Stephanie (Davina Joy) and Nina (Hillary Lowe), sweet local cook Eve (Danielle James) and ghost expert Dr. Randolph Fairfax (Jones), things start to get a little…spooky ooky? But are things truly what they appear, or is something even more sinister at play? Michael Dorn, Robert Picardo and Zack Ward are somehow also in this infuriating spook hunt. Mike Kovac (Resident Evil 4 Remake) returns to the show and tells us what its like to be a video game bad guy. We watched J.P. NEW EPISODE!!
If it’s Halloween, then we GOTTA talk about the VP of Horror himself! In this 1987 anthology, Price plays Julian White, librarian and historian of “evil” town Oldfield, Tennessee. On the night his niece (Martine Beswick) has been put to death by lethal injection for multiple murders, White is visited by journalist Beth (Susan Tyrell), and shares four tales of terror that support his claim that Oldfield is simply…bad. The tales include; a meek loser (Clu Gulager) murders his crush after she scorns him, only to have a ghoulish visitor 9 months later; a greedy crook (Terry Kiser) is saved by an honest swamp hermit (Harry Caesar), only to discover he may know the secret of immortality; a sweet, innocent woman (Didi Lanier) falls for a Carnival Glass Eater (Ron Brooks) whose soul is held captive by an evil Snakewoman (Rosalind Cash); and four Union soldiers at the end of the Civil War come across a town populated by murderous, cannibalistic children. Last year, they took his girlfriend; THIS year, Theo is getting some revenge, despite the protests of his chieftain father (Rutger Hauer). NEW EPISODE!!
It’s Shark Week (edit: 19 days ago) AND it’s almost Halloween (edit: two months to go), so why not mark the occasion with a sh*tty shark movie starring the biggest celebrity we could find! Halle Berry plays Kate, a Marine Biologist and Free Diver who a year previous, watched one of her friends get eaten while on a dive (…it was a shark, btw. Not the friend, the one what did the eatin!). Now, with money drying up and tourists not as interested in seeing a bunch of seals, Kate let’s her ex-husband Jeff (Olivier Martinez) talk her into accepting a big fat payday by taking obnoxious millionaire Brady (Ralph Brown) and his son Luke (Luke Tyler) out to find some Great White’s and swim outside the cage with them. Will her boat’s previously foreshadowed engine trouble come into play? Will Brady prove himself to be such an as***le that his fellow boatmates will murder him before the sharks get a chance to? Will we, the audience, be able to see ANYTHING in this very darkly lit, mostly underwater movie? We watch John Stockwell’s DARK TIDE, on this episode of Nothing Movies!

NEW EPISODE!!
In one of two films credited to 2011 where she plays an assassin who is the titular character (the other being Hanna), Saoirse Ronan is Daisy to Alexis Bledel’s Violet; two young women just trying to make it in the big city by shooting bad guys in the head for money. Desperate to buy the new designer dress from their favourite pop star (cuz, yknow, women be shoppin) they accept a new hit from their handler Russ (Danny Trejo). However, when they arrive at their target, they find that The Guy (James Gandolfini, and yes, that is his character name) is not what they were expecting. Kind, courteous, and bearing fresh baked cookies, Violet and Daisy face a moral dilemma for the first time in their careers; do they off the man and collect the paycheck, or do they inquire more about the situation to learn what’s really going on here. Soon, a gang of rival killers, plus an appearance from their own agencies Number 1 assassin (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) ups the stakes, as V&D realize, they may be in over their heads. Instead, this time, Hogan plays Joe McGrai, a retired secret service agent enjoying his days on an unspecific tropical paradise, saving wildlife and hanging out with his lil buddy Billy, who is definitely not played by a 30-year-old man. When his truck explodes mere minutes after finding a treasure map carved into the back of a turtle, Joe learns from his old partner Walter (Robert Vaughn) that their old nemesis Alonso Richter (Grace Jones) is on the island, and looking for payback. When Billy is kidnapped, Joe, Walter and an eventually named female tourist must team up to explore the jungle, dodge dangerous wildlife like raccoons and owls, and find the legendary lost treasure of McCinsey. Who was McCinsey? Some guy! Stole some jewels! We discuss the cartoonification of Grace Jones and break down the filmography of Terry Bollea, a man without any controversy who has never said anything bad or wrong on a s*x tape he didn’t realize he was being filmed for. Thank goodness for that! We watched Sam Firstenberg’s MCCINSEY’S ISLAND, today on Nothing Movies.
