I think we're all drawn to people who wants to talk TO you rather than AT you.

Which is ironic because I truly believe that our industry is all about people talking TO (or with) you rather than AT you. The underlining (or subtext) in all my discussions with my marketing girlies where we do want to create things that are FOR people, for our communities.

This is why I think it comes down to compassion, patience, and open transparency.

Compassion to keep us grounded in the present. Patience because you truly never know what is going on in another person's head.

And OPEN transparency because I think it's really easy to apply romanticism to this industry. With "I made $5k in two days" or "it took me 45 minutes to create 8-months worth of content with Chat.GPT" posts, it's easy to get caught in the mindset of well this coach/guru can wave a magic wand ✨ and BAM all my problems disappear.

In truth, it took that person 3 months to create the marketing strategy, work on the back end of their business, and then execute to make "$5k in two days". No, honey. It took you 3-months so you actually made $1666/month 💁🏽‍♀️

In truth, it took that person 6 months to learn how to train Chat.GPT to create the content and now it takes them another 30 minutes/content to go over the content for quality and messaging.

These are the open transparent conversations, I have with my clients. Things do not just happen 🫰🫰 like that.

I want to help you build and grow, in the ways that makes sense to you. There are no short cuts to that journey.

"We walked on Instagram so you could dance on TikTok." - Iliza Shlesinger

I know I've mentioned this quote before (or I will) but it really did just HIT the social media marketer in me. I've seen this industry grow and evolve into what it is today; for the good, the bad, and the interesting.

Some things I've learned over the years...
✅ Content creation - focus on what you're REALLY good especially in the beginning
🚫 You DO. NOT. need to be on every single platform. Save your energy
✅ Hone in on your community what they want and their journey to deeper experiences with you

It is always SO important to understand where you're at in building your online presence. It is VERY easy to be like oh someone is going to make 20-30 posts/month to "get me out there" and I completely understand why it's tempting. It seems like the easy route, but going back to the quote above... we are no longer in the day and age of digital marketing where we can post a picture and be like . Those days are over and our community want and expect more from our content creators and influencers.

At the end of the day, there's a lot of romanticism within this industry, but online marketing is still marketing.

On the other hand because it IS marketing, everyone can do this. Whether or not they do it well is a completely different conversation.

At the end of the day, you still have to care about your audience and the community you want to build. You still have to think about the impact you want to make and WHY you want to make it. You still need to make the effort in these things, you can't just post to post anymore. It's not enough slap a stock photo with some words on it, it's not enough to have your favourite quote or song or whatever as your caption.

What is one of the biggest lessons you've learned about online marketing? Does it still ring true today?
