As co-chair of the CISF, I’m absolutely thrilled to share that our fund, alongside the BSO (also near and dear to my heart) and the BAF, has been selected as one of the three recipients of funding from the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission). This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team.

After four years, myself with my co-chair, Lalita Krishna and Executive Director, Sally Lee, relaunched the former CIFVF to CISF to exemplify the need for an independent BPOC film fund. Our mission is to empower and support Black and racialized creators, providing them with the resources they need to bring their unique stories and perspectives to life.

There are no words to express the true loss of Charles Officer. A bright light of talent, kindness and determination. This was a wonderful human who dreamed big and dared greatly. Who made beautiful, thought provoking work that touched our souls. The journey was cut too short but you left us with a legacy that will endure for generations to come.

We will miss you, my friend.

Subjects of Desire is a special film and if you are on our channels you have heard about it for a while now.  Condensing 500 years of history into 2 hours is no easy feat and I think Jen did an amazing job communicating all the beauty, joy and struggle into one amazing film.  We met so many brilliant and beautiful Black women on this journey and we are so happy to introduce them to the world.  It’s funny, Beauty Pageants really get a bad rap, but seeing all of the Miss Black America contestants come together in sisterhood was truly one of the most memorable times in our lives.  It was especially significant for our daughters Daeja and Cici who witnessed these incredible women in person.  We have been overwhelmed with the love and support that the film has generated and we are pleased that it has been selected for inclusion in the Breakthrough Film Festival and is being programmed as a part of Canada Film Day this Wednesday @6:30pm in Halifax at Pier 21, 1055 Marginal Road! It’s FREE and there will be a Q&A with filmmaker Jen Holness!!
