Keevan Veinot, a third-year guard with the U SPORTS Canada silver medallist Dalhousie Tigers, is the 2019–20 Atlantic University Sport / Sport universitaire de l'Atlantique Male Athlete of the Year.
This season, the commerce student from Port Williams, N.S. led the Tigers to a 19-1 regular season record and a first-place finish in the AUS standings. He led the conference in steals (2.3 per game) and assists (5.5 per game). He led Dalhousie in both points per game (15.6) and rebounds per game (5.2).
At the 2020 AUS Basketball Championship, he was nPlayer of the Game in the championship final as the Tigers claimed their fifth conference title in six seasons (Veinot’s second). He was also an AUS tournament all-star.
On the national stage, Veinot led the Tigers to silver—Dalhousie’s best performance in program history. Veinot was named the player of the game in the Tigers’ quarterfinal win. His accomplishments include a U Sports first-team all-Canadian selection as well as being the first Tiger named AUS MVP. He was also named an AUS first team all-star.
Lorena Heubach
Lorena Heubach of the Dalhousie Tigers track and field team is the Atlantic University Sport / Sport universitaire de l'Atlantique female athlete of the week. A third-year engineering student from Granville Beach, N.S., Heubach won her first-ever national gold medal in the women’s long jump at the U SPORTS Canada Track and Field Championships last weekend in Edmonton, earning first team all-Canadian honours in the process.
Matt Coolen of the Dalhousie Tigers track and field team is the Atlantic University Sport / Sport universitaire de l'Atlantique male athlete of the week. A fifth-year sprinter from Halifax, he ran an 8.02 to win national gold in the 60m hurdles at the U SPORTS Canada Track and Field Championships last weekend in Edmonton. He set a new Dalhousie record in the process, topping his previous time of 8.04 seconds, and was named a first team all-Canadian.
