Bruce Knight Memorial Piobaireachd Competition Annual open amateur bagpipe competition on Vancouver Island, BC.

Bruce Knight was an avid student of the bagpipes who particularly enjoyed piobaireachd, the classical music of the bagpipe. After he passed away FAR too early, his friends and fellow pipers of the Victoria Police Pipe Band in Victoria, BC created a trophy and competition in his memory. The open amateur piobaireachd competition is held annually on Vancouver Island, and his friends and family think he would be pleased as punch that it has continued.

The Bruce Knight Memorial piobaireachd competition was held as planned at the Bay Street Armouries in Victoria on March 2. This was the first year that the Vancouver Island Pipers Club organized the event and it was a real success.
There were 2 entries in the Novice class, 3 in the Nontraditional class, 8 in the Open Amateur and 4 in the Former Winners, with the bonus People's Choice awarded to the audience's favorite performer.
All players did their very best, and left feeling inspired to continue pursuing their lifelong learning of piobaireachd. A big thanks to everyone in attendance!

Okay, more treats! This is Bruce Gandy, playing the ground of his brand new piobaireachd "Skye, of Mount Vernon Washington" in honour of the incomparable Skye Richendrfer. As Bruce explained, he wanted to compose a tune that wasn't too technical so it could be played by all players...

Which brings me to the next point: we are planning the next Bruce Knight Memorial Piobaireachd Competition in conjunction with Vancouver Island Pipers Club for next fall!!!!!!!
So have a close listen and see if this lovely tune will be your competition choice. And if you ask nicely, Bruce Gandy Music might even send you the music. Enjoy!
