Colin is a filmmaker and cinematographer in Ottawa who took on the challenge of creating, filming and producing 12 short films in one year. Colin and Mike discuss relationships in the arts, the challenges of filming one short per month and the balance of artistic creation and living life. Are you an aspiring screenwriter who would love to have your script made into a short film? Are you a Canadian Citizen or a Canadian Permanent Resident?
Moonrise Productions is proud to announce the Third Annual Script-to-Screen Incubator project. This project offers aspiring screenwriters the opportunity to submit their short film scripts for development and production of their scripts.
The unproduced screenwriter whose script is selected will gain experience developing it and working with Producers and a Director. The Incubator also allows screenwriters to gain first-hand experience in the production process, from the script to the screen stages.
Date for submissions: April 1st to April 30th, 2024, at 11:59pm
Length of the script: The script must be a maximum of five pages (5 minutes).
Who is eligible to submit: Any Canadian screenwriter with no previous credit as a screenwriter. (student-produced projects don’t count).

Casting call!

We are auditioning for two roles for a short film. Lunch will be provided, and a small honorarium.

Claire: Female, any ethnicity, 60+ screen age.
Suffering from dementia, Claire has difficulty grounding herself in the present. Frequently foggy and prone to lapses in memory, she is cared for at home by her husband, Joseph.

Joseph: Male, any ethnicity, 60+ screen age.
Coming to terms with a terminal cancer diagnosis and the day-to-day care of his wife, Joseph is resilient and dependable. Cracks begin to show as he struggles to accept his mortality and what it will inevitably mean for Claire.

Auditions will be on Zoom on July 17, & 19, & 20, 2023.

Our second script is "Shoes in the City" written by Alanna Budden. Alanna is a writer and athlete from Windsor, Ontario. Unashamedly inspired by Pixar and Disney Animation Studios, she loves using wonder to tell stories that resonate with all ages. If she were a pair of shoes, she would probably be a comfortable pair of mud-splashed hiking boots with purple laces.

We also excited to be working with Deena A. Alsaweer who joins the Incubator time to direct.

We're excited to announce the two Incubator scripts we have greenlit for production this summer!
First script is "Claire and Joseph" written by Arlana Gillis. Originally from Nova Scotia, Arlana was drawn to the creative arts from a young age. After exploring the world, she honed her storytelling ability through bedtime tales and songs while raising her daughter. This is her first script which is an homage to her parents.

It seems my brain was so tired after Saturday night, I didn't properly post on Sunday and got stuck in drafts.

I truly appreciate everyone who made the Incubator Screening and Gala a wonderful night! Thank you to Hingman Leung and Patrick Mulligan for your vision and talent in creating two beautiful films!
Thank you Maissa Houri for being an incredible MC/moderator! Thank you to the cast and crew for your talent and hard work! We missed Blair and Lynn Campbell on Saturday but they were there in spirit.
