JULS - Journal of Undergraduate Life Sciences JULS is the premier undergraduate peer-reviewed journal at the UofT and McMasterU.

The University of Toronto Journal of Undergraduate Life Sciences (JULS) was established in the summer of 2006 to serve as a platform for undergraduates in the life sciences to communicate their research findings. JULS seeks to publish original research papers, review articles, news briefs and interviews drawn from a wide range of life science disciplines. Research and review articles are edited by

a peer and faculty review process for annual publication in both print and electronic formats. This year, JULS is also working hard to bring current events in the world of science closer to you. Our Mission

• To provide an opportunity for undergraduate students to publish their research findings in a peer-reviewed academic journal

• To engage the undergraduate life sciences community to actively participate in the academic research process

• To promote an interest in the Life Sciences

• To encourage participation in intellectual activity beyond the classroom environment

• To enhance interdisciplinary knowledge and communication across the Life Science disciplines

Hello everyone!

The Journal of Undergraduate Life Sciences is excited to host a series of workshops this year centered around the scientific research and writing process. We hope to introduce the concepts of scientific inquiry that are not covered in first and second year courses and you will have a chance to learn about the publishing process from previous authors, faculty, and the editorial team!

As part of the JULS 2020-2021 Cover Contest, we are now accepting submission of original graphics (e.g. illustration, photograph) that reflects the theme: “COVID-19 at Work”. The competition is open to all University of Toronto and McMaster University students. The winner’s work will be featured in the 15th Volume of JULS which will be published at the end of the 2020-21 academic year.

Deadline for submission is March 28, 11:59pm.

The Journal of Undergraduate Life Sciences (JULS) is a peer-reviewed journal featuring research conducted by undergraduate students in Canada. Established in 2006, the JULS is supported by various departments and faculties, and has gained recognition from the President of the University of Toronto, the Premier of Ontario, and the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta.

The JULS is hosting its first annual general meeting on October 21, 2020 at 6pm EST. The meeting will introduce the journal and familiarize undergraduate students with the submission and editorial process. Everyone is welcome to join and ask questions!

A Zoom meeting link will be posted closer to the date of the event.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW OPEN

Want to publish that paper you completed over the summer or during your independent research course in a peer-reviewed academic journal? The Journal of Undergraduate Life Sciences (JULS) is the University of Toronto’s oldest journal featuring the work of undergraduates. With more than a decade of showcasing undergraduate research at the University of Toronto, JULS is now accepting submissions for its 14th volume!

If you are an undergraduate author of innovative and insightful research (either in primary or review form), JULS welcomes the submission of an abstract or a manuscript throughout the year until April 1, 2020. For the first time, we will be publishing online on a rolling basis. JULS accepts submissions from all disciplines in the life sciences as well as chemistry, physics, and psychology.

JULS is also accepting news article submissions. Highlight some research from the university that you think was notable (it could be research that you worked on!), or share your insights on academic conferences or university events.
