Challenge AIDS and Malaria in Africa (CHAMA) is a canadian base-African focused registered
NGO (mission group). MISSION

Our mission at CHAMA is to sustainably challenge Malaria and AIDS in African hard-to-reach areas through: education, clean water, healthcare, economic empowerment and grassroots infrastructural development initiatives. INSPIRATION:

In 2005, our founder, Olugu came to Canada u

nder Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship to get a better education at Dalhousie University so that he can go back and help his community in Africa. He founded CHAMA after losing his 16-month-old daughter -Goodness -to malaria unnecessarily during his study in Canada. Olugu had before then unsuccessfully applied thrice to the Canadian High Commission to issue his family a visiting visa is so that they could come and support him while taking his master degree at Dalhousie University. He lost his precious daughter, "Goodness" to malaria needlessly which couldn’t have happened had his family was granted a visiting Canada to join him in Canada where there is no malaria. It became his life mission to prevent parents from going through the traumatic experience he and his wife endured after losing their Goodness. Olugu was desperate to help, and extended his credit to purchase as many supplies as he could to bring to rural communities in Africa with 15 volunteer medical doctors in attendance. He has set out to better the lives of those struggling in Africa with poverty diseases and Neglected Tropical Diseases such as Malaria and needs your help. He can longer do it alone. CHAMA is now an international registered charity with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), currently working in 15 African countries and counting. “We cannot forget those children we left behind,” Olugu declared. OUR MISSION

Our goal at CHAMA is to challenge AIDS and Malaria in rural African communities through sustainable development projects and donating medical supplies and services. Our annual missions includes creating access to clean water, proper sanitation, and by supporting local healthcare and educational programmes. In 2016 CHAMA completed a 6 classroom school in a rural African community that had been without one for more than 100 years. At CHAMA we believe a strong foundation in education is key to eradicating these curable diseases. With a young child dying from maalria every 30 seconds, we must act now. EDUCATION PROJECT

“Without the gracious supports that I have received from the community, I couldn’t have been here today. I was helpless, homeless, and hopeless after the early deaths of my parents. Our thatch house collapsed. Without the community, the various scholarships that I enjoyed from my undergraduate to my graduate education, I couldn’t have had my education; I couldn’t have been an ambassador of education as a human right, I couldn’t have been a champion of Humanitarian affairs. It is time to give back to the community”. --- Dr. Olugu Ukpai, PhD Law – Executive Director and Founder, CHAMA.

"How God Used CHAMA To Rescue My 3 Children From Life-threatening Health Issues"

CHAMA beneficiary, Madam Uchechi Cherechi from Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, who God used CHAMA to restore the lives of her three children in Arochukwu in 2019, has said she is preparing to not only come to Ngor Okpala Invasion but will come with the three children in order to inspire others.

In a chat with our media department, Madam Uchechi passionately thanked CHAMA and the CEO, Dr. Olugu Ukpai, for how he heeded God's call upon his life to impact lives.

Hear her: "I am ever grateful to CHAMA and Dr Ukpai whom God used to save my three children after I had gone several places.
"Where could I have seen almost N1m for hernia operations on my children but God brought CHAMA my way and they were treated free of charge.

"I am planning to take all of them to the next program (Ngor Okpala) so that others will see what God did to me through CHAMA.

"Please help me tell Dr. Ukpai not to be angry with me; I can't thank him enough but God will continue to reward him...."

Meanwhile, testimonies like this abound in CHAMA as God has continued to use warriors to change lives and share GOODNESS to the vulnerable among us in the past 16 years with over 600 surgeries.

Warriors in the house, let us say something about this with Thanksgiving unto God.

CHAMA MISSION CAMP

There may be medical tools in your hands to treat the patient, but those hands must be that of a loving, warm and conscientious human being. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free.

CHAMA MISSION - where compassionate individuals extend healing hands to those in need.

In rural areas of countries like Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Liberia etc where CHAMA helps, access to public health care can be scarce. Private health care, while available, often comes at a higher cost. But amidst these challenges, dedicated souls rise to make a difference.

CHAMA MISSIONS

“What is the essence of life? To serve others and to do good.”

Spoken by Greek philosopher Aristotle over 2300 years ago, one of the most ancient quotes about volunteering offers proof that giving back to the community is hardly a new concept.

With so many people less fortunate than those of us who can afford to travel, and with funding for social services being brutally slashed, humanitarianism is becoming increasingly important these days.

Humanitarians are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain loving one another.” – Erma Bombeck

CHAMA's Intervention medical camp https://www.youtube.com/

More than seven million children under the age of five remain malnourished and in need of urgent nutrition aid, and over 1.9 million boys and girls* are at risk of dying from severe malnutrition.

As the region comes out of one of the worst droughts in 40 years, vulnerable communities have lost cattle, crops, and entire livelihoods over the past three years of failed rains.
Over the past three years, communities have been forced to take extreme measures to survive, with millions of children and families leaving their homes out of pure desperation in search of food and water. This crisis has deprived children of the essentials of childhood – having enough to eat, a home, safe water, and going to school.

Turning your mess into a ministry

Rick Warren, the author of *Purpose Driven Life*, once said, that “your greatest ministry comes from your deepest pain. Suffering not only sanctifies you to make you like Jesus, but it also sends you out into the suffering world to minister like Jesus. Your experiences, lessons learned, and empathy gained through suffering are the very things that make you a better minister.”

Your greatest ministry emerges from your deepest pain. When you’re honest with God, others, and yourself about the struggles you’ve faced, those very struggles become your ministry. It’s called redemptive suffering—the highest and best use of your pain. Jesus desires to redeem your suffering, not let it go to waste! He wants to use it to help others when they’re hurting.

Consider this: Who’s better qualified to assist a struggling veteran than someone who’s been through the same struggle? Who can better support someone recovering from prescription drug addiction than someone who has overcome it? Who could better help someone suffering from a chronic illness than someone who has experienced similar pain? And who could better help parents who have lost a child than those parents who have lost a child?

Your greatest ministry blossoms from your deepest pain. When you share your experiences, surrendering to God and relying on His strength, you connect with others more profoundly than you can imagine. By sharing hope born out of redemption through Jesus Christ, you help others grow in their faith.

What tragedy have you passed through? What pain have you passed through? What onerous life challenges have you passed through? It wasn’t your fault that you had to experience that. Stop blaming yourself. Jesus said to them in John chapter 9 “neither did this man sinned nor his parents. But for the name of God be glorified”. This is a ministry that God has given you to share your story, using it to minister to others passing through similar situation. *That’s your TURNING POINT MINISTRY* and everybody has one.

Stop crying for pity, rather, turn your mess into a ministry.

DR OLUGU UKPAI, A GLOBAL MALARIA ACTIVIST, “ARMED WITH DETERMINATION AND A DRUM”

Dr. Olugu Ukpai, a man with a mission, has dedicated his life to raising awareness about malaria. His journey began when he received a life-changing call from his wife in Nigeria while studying as an international student at Dalhousie University, in Canada. The devastating news was that his 16-month-old daughter, Goodness Ukpai, had succumbed to this deadly disease. The pain was immeasurable, but Olugu Ukpai decided to channel his grief into action.

Goodness Ukpai’s memory lives on through her father’s tireless efforts. Olugu Ukpai, armed with determination and a drum, is using rhythm to spread awareness about malaria. As he pounds the drums, a wide smile graces his face, a testament to his resilience and commitment. His mission extends beyond mere awareness; he actively works to improve the lives of impoverished communities affected by this “poverty disease.” Through his non-profit organization, CHAMA, he has built orphanages, homes, and wells that provide clean water, untouched by malaria’s parasites. Additionally, CHAMA offers free medical operations to those in need.

Olugu Ukpai’s battle against malaria is a powerful example of turning personal tragedy into a force for change. His dedication echoes through the rhythms of his drums, resonating with hope and determination.

AMAEKPU OHAFIA CELEBERATES AS CHAMA GAVE HOPE TO MISS CHIDINMA EMETU THROUGH 💯% FREE SURGERY.

Miss Chidinma EMETU is
a daughter to Mr EMETU & Mrs Ijeoma EMETU from Amaekpu OHAFIA.

When CHAMA medical team arrived OHAFIA, Mr EMETU approached me and said to me "Dr Olugu, do not allow my daughter to die. She's been in acute pain for years and the government has been owing us for eight months".

I just smiled. Why? Mr EMETU was my Mathematics teacher in secondary school. He would trekk from Amaekpu through the bus road under mud just to come and teach us Mathematics because we were short of teachers at Secondary Technical School, Amangwu OHAFIA at that time.

I smiled because l saw that as an opportunity to tell him *THANK YOU* And her case was accelerated because it was deemed Emergency and it was *appendicitis*

Appendicitis is the most common non-traumatic surgical emergency in children. Each year, an estimated 33,000 Canadians develop appendicitis and 7,100 of them are children.

Acute appendicitis was once thought to be rare among rural blacks. It is now known that appendicitis is relatively common among Africans and in Africa. At the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria, appendicitis is the most common cause of acute abdomen on the surgical service.

When we lost our precious daughter, *Goodness Olugu* to malaria needlessly, the devil intended it to harm and cause us pain. But now, *we have turned our misery into ministry, and our mess into a message*

In the Bokk of Genesis chapter 50: 20, Joseph told his brothers, thus:

"*You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people*"

To God be the glory!

Man On A Mission
CHAMA CEO.
