We are back at the where the backyard transformation is underway! Sarah and Matthew have been working away at the stone installation and today we got the main patio finished and the deck framing almost done. We are loving these pavers from .ca !

Lots of progress has been happening at the this week! Rough-in’s for electrical and plumbing are in, the new shower and walk-in closet are framed and we are starting drywall today!

Sanding has begun! The first phase to lighten the original red oak floors started today and went really well! A bit more sanding tomorrow with the orbital sander and then on to the whitener to get the red out!

Demo day is underway at the near Picton! We are so excited to be back for another phase of renovation at this beautiful home in the County! Our first project for this amazing family was a complete basement transformation in 2019, then the main floor in 2020. This will be the final phase to complete the total home makeover!

New doors and windows are in at the ! We actually ordered these windows in August… 4 weeks before hurricane Ian hit. The old aluminum hurricane shutters on the house stood up against the storm but these new hurricane impact windows will really give us peace of mind. Thank you for such an amazing installation!

We have been trying to figure out what to do about the excessive texture all over the walls and ceiling at the . The 4 ft we ripped out after the hurricane has no texture and everything else has too much! We came to the decision to add some to the bottom half with trowels and smooth out some of the top… it’s taking a looong time! But hopefully we’ll have something that resembles a Mediterranean villa when we’re finished! 🤷‍♀️

The floor is finally going in at the ! After a week of loud and dusty jackhammering to remove the old tiles it feels so much cleaner to see the plank floor! We chose waterproof vinyl (for obvious reasons!😬)in a wide plank white oak finish to give the house a real beach feel!

Things are moving along at the and drywall is almost complete, (taping and texture still to go) shower is finished so we can finally have a shower (woohoo!) and laundry machines and appliances have arrived!

The pool is finally operational at the (with a few adjustments on the equipment still needed) 🙃…so we took our first dip since the hurricane…with a nice sunset to boot!

We haven’t finished tiling a shower so we are teaming up, Trevor doing the cutting and me tiling. This is the largest tile we’ve worked with so it’s a bit of a challenge and it’s taking two of us to handle them. We are hoping to get it done by tomorrow then start the next bathroom. Having a shower would be really nice!

We’ve been going non-stop the last few days trying to get the house to a liveable state since we are staying here while renovating! We finally have a sink in the house (new vanity) and the hot water tank went in today but not wired up yet… so still no hot water!😩 The tile is starting in the guest shower so we will hopefully have that done tomorrow? Still no kitchen but the plumbing to the new island is roughed in. It’s basically camping for a few more weeks! Luckily several of the island’s restaurants are open with more opening soon so we have a great excuse to eat out!

An extra bathroom is always a good idea! We took a dark unused space in the basement and transformed it into a bright new 3 pc with an extra large shower, increasing this house from a 3bed 2 bath to a 4 bed 3 bath! Swipe for the before!

We have finished the new bar at the ! This space used to be an old laundry tub! Now it’s a complete wet bar with a wine fridge and lots of storage and space for entertaining.
It must be 5 o’clock somewhere right?😉

We are back at the …just in time for a Polar Vortex! 🌬️❄️ 🥶 Trevor picked up the new flooring for the basement and he’s really looking forward to unloading it in -30°C ! Renovations are a lot harder in cold weather!

We’ve done as much as we can on on the renovation during this visit to Sanibel and little by little we’re getting closer to staying in the house. Drywall is up in the bedrooms and bathrooms, we have a partial working bathroom😬 the new electrical is roughed in, new air conditioner is installed, the pool has been resurfaced and of course more debris has been cleaned up and hauled away.
Next time we’re back we’ll be focusing on the kitchen and bathrooms so it will soon start looking more like a home!

Slowly but surely the hurricane recovery continues on Sanibel and today the Sanibel Farmers Market is back! A new temporary location at Jerry’s but little by little a sense of normalcy is starting to return to the island. Several restaurants are also open and some beaches in February and luckily for us Ace hardware!

More tiling! While the drywall was going up downstairs, the ensuite shower was getting tiled upstairs… lots going on to get this house finished!

We are back at the this week and drywall is going up! We are transforming the unfinished basement by adding a media zone, bar area, bedroom and bathroom update. There are definitely going to be some sore necks after this week!

Well that’s a wrap for 2022…It was a busy year with many ups and downs!
Our most ambitious project yet was completed in Prince Edward County at the , we bought our Sanibel beach house, took some amazing trips with our family, dealt with a hurricane disaster and started work on our Crowe Lake house!
Thank you for following along on our renovation journey! We are working on some exciting new projects for the new year and can’t wait to share them with you!

Kitchen progress this week at the … the countertops are in! Thank you to for an amazing install! The open shelves and hood vent are also up and we finally have a kitchen sink! A bit more work still to go but it’s getting there!

We named our beach bungalow Buttonwood Breeze after the amazing Buttonwood tree growing in our front yard.
