*This post is not meant for discussion of the merits of the Donner Cut versus the Lester theatrical cut, nor is it meant for discussion of fans edits or “dream” edits. This post is meant for discussing the two different versions of the Donner Cut…the 116 min official edit and the 112 min streaming edit.*

It now appears that the infamous VUDU extended edit of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (122 minutes) has disappeared from all streaming platforms. It was available on VUDU, Prime Video, Google/YouTube and other platforms beginning in 2016, but now all streaming platforms seem to be offering only the “official” 116 minute version. This has everything to do with the recent 4K releases on disc of the entire Christopher Reeve Superman Movie Series; streaming platforms updated their HD versions with 4K versions, which subsequently wiped out the extended Donner Cut. Please don’t expect the extended edit to ever be officially released on physical media or on streaming platforms in the future. It was mistakenly released by Warner Bros. Entertainment back in 2016 and was NOT the final and approved edit by Richard Donner; I know this because Mr. Donner and I discussed it at length in person.
