More new aviation modelling content added to the shop with Scale Aviation Vol. 161 now available.

The focus of this issue is the realistic brush painting techniques of Kai Shimizu and includes a bonus DVD demonstrating his process. His results are very impressive and are great example/reminder of the capabilities of this humble tool.

Also of note, this issue also includes Mike Rinaldi's work with the new Fine Molds Zero.

🚨Canadians! Tell the tax to take off, eh!

If you needed another reason — besides John Chung's new book — to get in on the current pre-order, books sold through the Luftshop until February 6* are GST/HST exempt!

I was a bit slow on the realization, so Canadian orders placed since the exemption took place will have the GST/HST charged on book purchases reimbursed.

*The exemption actually ends February 15, however delivery dates influence how long online retailers can extend the exemption.

The book will be released by Dai Nippon Kaiga of Japan, and is beautifully put together by editor Noah Krasowitz and his amazing team at Modelkasten. It will join their existing series of incredible publications that feature names like Kris Sieber, Yuzo Harada, and Shuichi Hayashi, which I’m incredibly honoured to follow.

This book provides a detailed, step-by-step guide to transforming gray-painted aircraft — which often lack visual appeal — into realistic and striking scale models. The book covers every step in detail, including detailing, painting, and weathering, all presented in a step-by-step format. Featuring examples such as the F-16 and CF-188 Hornet, it includes three popular modern aircraft models at 1/48 scale.

A quick bit of good news for outstanding orders. The postal strike here in Canada is ended, and I should have books enroute to me from Japan in the next few days.

And with the strike over, new backorders are now being accepted. While it won't arrive in time to go under the tree, if you have some Christmas money burning a hole in your pocket or feel the need to Santa yourself something real nice, hobby books will take care of that for you 😉

Quick update from LuftShop HQ / Real-time shipping options, costs, and estimated delivery times, provided directly from Canada Post are now live on the site.

While there won't be much difference from the previous shipping info and costs — I always kept shipping fees as close as possible to actual costs — orders containing multiple books will most likely see better pricing now.

Also important to remember, estimated shipping times for all pre-ordered items start once I ship the books, not from the time the order is placed.

Oh, and 2 days left in the current pre-order window. Take the new system for a spin and place your order now for late November/early December shipping!

New book in the shop, the Essential Guide to Using Mr. Weathering Color.

While at first glance The Mr. Weathering Color line would appear to be targeted to armour and diorama builders, aviation, sci-fi, and gundam modellers shouldn't ignore the Mr. Weathering Color products — those who are familiar with the work of Shuichi Hayashi or MOKEO will have seen these products used to great effect in their books.

That said, this publication is produced by the Armour Modelling editorial team, and armour are the subjects used for demonstration, so modellers outside the armour genre will have to reimagine the effects on your preferred subject.

The Essential Guide to Using Mr. Weathering Color weighs in at 128 pages, and as always, includes great photography and plenty of it, paired with step-by-step explanations of the full product line. Text is Japanese, but understandable through your preferred translation app.

In a (pleasantly) surprising development, Super Detailing the F-14 Tomcat was not only green-lit for reprint, the reprint is already done! So starting today, pre-orders for the second edition of Super Detailing the F-14 Tomcat are now open!

If you're new to the book, it follows my super-detailing and finishing adventures using Tamiya's F-14D in 1/48 scale, however, the techniques used would readily apply to any modern military aircraft. Full English text thought, and I ship (almost) worldwide.
