I just want to send a huge thank you to my stylist, designer & photographer Livia Manywounds❤️

I’ve been her assistant for the past few years attending major fashion shows and I’ve seen many of her beautiful creations walk the runway. When I recieved my acceptance email to Miss Indigenous Canada I knew she was going to be the one to make my traditional outfit!

~

In preparation for the pageant we sat down and went through each outfit that I would need during pageant week and curated a total of 6 looks. I’m so happy with the way each outfit turned out, especially my traditional outfit! Livy created a beautiful Red Teton Trade Cloth T-Dress with over 200 Cowry Shells! She went above and beyond my expectations, and to top it off lent me some beautiful beadwork to go with it.

She sewed on stunning Appliqué for my Welcome Dinner Formal Gown and put together my Ribbon Skirt with Side Bows. In addition she also created an extra T-Dress! Which I sadly did not get to wear at the pageant, but will still cherish.

I’m truly grateful for all of her help and support to make sure I looked beautiful at the pageant❤️

When one of us wins we all win❤️

I’m so honoured to have been a contestant for the FIRST ever Miss Indigenous Canada Pageant. Out of 700 applicants, 26 amazing leaders were chosen to showcase our culture, community & leadership. We made history!

This was my first time competing in a pageant and I’m so proud to say I DID THAT! Although I may not be walking away with a title I walked away with greater experiences and amazing connections. This was definitely something out of my comfort zone but I’m glad I pushed through, I will forever cherish the memories made with my pageant sisters. I’m so proud of each and every one of us who showed up for our communities. The passion, knowledge, positivity, and empowering energy was definitely felt throughout the duration of the pageant. It was such an amazing experience and I am saddened that it has come to an end but I know we will all cross paths again❤️

I would like to thank Aleria and the committee for creating such a welcoming space and bringing us contestants together. I’m so excited to see where this pageant will go in the future, this is only the beginning!

Thank you to all of the pageant sponsors, it would not have been possible without you!

I would also like to thank my family and all those that supported me on this journey🪶
- A special thank you to my mom for being my biggest support through it all❤️
- Thank you to my grandparents who supported my pageant journey!
- Thank you to Blood Tribe Wellness Program for monetary support!
- Thank you to my work who coordinated a fundraiser to help with pageant costs.
- Thank you to all those who donated to the WE MATTER Campaign on my behalf. I was able to hand in $1200. We raised a total of $27,000 from contestants & a portion of ticket sales!!
- A HUGE thank you to my Aunty Livy for creating my beautiful traditional outfit to wear for the final show and lending me some beautiful beadwork to wear❤️

MIC Pageant - Day 2🪶

Today was such an amazing day full of workshops, beautiful teachings and energy🤍

We began our day at the Planetarium where we heard constellation stories. Thank you to McMaster University for having us!

We then ventured out to Mohawk Longhouse where we were given very valuable and authentic knowledge from Miss Indian World 2010-2011. It was so beautiful to learn the spirit that lives within Indigenous pageants and to think about how we as the inaugural pageant contestants will set the prestige and spirit for future contestants🤍 Thank you to Dakota Brant!

Our afternoon consisted of workshops. The first workshop was with Deanne Hupfield. She shared her powwow teachings and taught us a few moves. We had the opportunity to learn Hoop Dance & Fancy. It was nice to get up and get moving. For our second workshop we made intention bracelets with Shelley Squire Our Medicine Walk ononhkwa'shon:'a. Thank you for picking such great energy stones & charms for our bracelets.

We ended our afternoon with a presentation from We Matter ambassadors Emily Granville & Eagle Blackbird. WE MATTER is this year’s Miss Indigenous Canada charity, it was so amazing to further hear what the organization is all about and all that it has to offer. I enjoyed this presentation a lot, as it relates to a lot of the work I do within the Indigenous community in Calgary.

Oki!

My name is Taylor Bottle. My Blackfoot name is Natoyi’pootaki - Sacred Flying Woman.

I am very honoured to announce that I have been selected as one of the contestants for the 2024 Miss Indigenous Canada Pageant!! This is the inaugural year of the pageant and it will be taking place in Six Nations, Ontario this July. It is a once in a life time opportunity, and I am truly looking forward to sharing this experience with an amazing group of Indigenous women across turtle island.

I will be representing the Blood Tribe First Nation of the Blackfoot Confederacy.

~

A little bit about myself, I am currently a Youth Elder within my community, working with an initiative called Planet Youth - Calgary. My role as a Youth Elder is to empower the youth voice, represent and advocate for Indigenous youth, build relationships with the youth in the community and be that positive role model they can connect with. I am very honoured to hold this role in my community as it has been a huge turning point in my life.

I am also a Youth Cultural Support Worker at Diamond Willow Youth Lodge, a Program Facilitator with a women’s wellness program called Makoyoh’sokoi (Wolf Trails) and I will be a returning student this fall at Mount Royal University. I am in my Bachelor of Arts Program, majoring in Anthropology with a double minor in Indigenous Studies and Peace & Conflict Studies.

Thank you for taking the time to read, hand to heart❤️

I will be sharing my journey on the following social media platforms, please feel free to give me a follow!
