I prefer to write early morning. When I work though I try to write at night after work.

❓ Do you write a 'vomit draft' and go back to edit it, or do you plan out the scenes from the getgo?
I do a version of both. I plan my scenes ahead of time and then I do a rough draft. Even if it's rough I still have a hard time with rewrites because I'm a perfectionist and believe the first draft should be perfect. Working on that.

I have always been and shall always remain a night owl! There's just something about the silence of the night that brings on great stories!

Listening to music, taking long walks... on the beach? No! Just around the neighbourhood and taking in nature.

I toss all my ideas down and flesh them out. Once those are all done, I attempt to put them in order to make something out of it.

Mostly in the day - I write 5 days a week. If I am on a deadline I'll write day and night.
❓ What routines/exercises help you stay focused and help you work better?
I don't have anything particular. But on the days that it's more difficult to write I'll focus on other aspects of my project such as research.
❓ Do you believe in writer's block? When you have writer's block, what helps you get back to writing?
I believe in writer's block. Different things will help depending on what is causing me to be blocked. Sitting at my computer and showing up for my regular writing time, and sometimes, gratefully, writing with a friend. Being accountable is very helpful to me.

❓ Do you write during a certain time in the day/night?
I try to write as much as possible throughout the day, whenever I can find the time. If not, I am up until the wee hours to write and also sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night and write from 2AM-6AM.
❓ What routines/exercises help you stay focused and help you work better?
For me, the hardest part sometimes is starting to write. I think that's why I write the best in the wee hours of the night, when distractions are very limited - although now that I have friends from all over the world, I find there are always people up when I am. To help me start to write, I time myself for 25 minutes. I just tell myself to write for that long and usually, it propels to write for longer.
❓ Do you believe in writer's block? When you have writer's block, what helps you get back to writing?
I believe in distractions and trying to limit distractions as much as possible. I think that's why the pandemic has been great for my writing time. I am doing nothing except staying at home right now so I find I have more time to write.
