I can’t believe we are in the last week of march 🤯 big things happening over here.

We just wrapped up 3 brand clients and are finalizing 2 websites that are launching so so soon 😍

We are taking clients for April & May (pardon meeee where has the year gone)

& the biggest update of all — we move home to Ontario and start our cross country trek THIS WEEK. Officially leaving the island on Wednesday. It’s definitely bittersweet. We are so excited to be reunited with friends and family but will definitely miss the ocean being a 5 minute walk up the road 🌊

So this week is a lot of packing, decluttering, wrapping up projects, discovery calls and hitting the road.

How is it already October 🤯

The last few months have been super busy — not only with dream clients, but soaking up the sunshine with loved ones. With a new season upon us, I can’t help but feel inspired for these next few months — here’s a few things I’m looking forward to to wrap up 2021:

1️⃣ Investing in the business — I am a firm believer that when you invest in yourself and your business, it comes back 10x. So as much as I want other businesses to invest in brand and web design to elevate and scale their biz — I’m doing the same! Recently I hired an email marketing specialist to create a strategy for m&p, a copywriter to work on my IG content as well as a copywriter to create some amazing blogs! I’ve also invested in a coaching program to improve my skills to be able to better serve you 🤍

2️⃣ Looking at my goals for the year and seeing where I’m at — with that, also adding goals to cap off the year! This is huge for me. I LOVE to get busy in the last quarter of the year, there’s no better feeling than ending strong and starting the new year totally inspired.

3️⃣ Being intentional. This is a new one for me but I want it to be my word for 2022 — and start to put it into practice now! I want to be intentional with my time, the things I’m working on, the clients I align with, the boundaries in my personal life as well as business. I want to be intentional with every decision I’m making — what purpose does this have in the life I envision for myself?

3 words: PUSH - BACK - COMMENTS (yay) 😅

Okay but no seriously, many of us service-based providers deal with this on a daily basis, whether it’s coming from a potential lead, or an actual client - either way they’re annoying.

What are push back comments? They’re the comments that people make to either take advantage of your services, and/or you.

The best thing about owning your own business is that you get to call the shots - but this also means you have to draw the line and set the boundaries when things like this happen 👏🏽

The best thing to remember is to stay professional as possible, without explaining yourself… because you’re the boss baby! 😘

Running your own business can already be tricky as it is…

But trying to decide how to price yourself as a designer? Even trickier! 💰

Figuring out how to price your services is a combination of your experience, the value you’ll provide a business and your worth - it’s all about finding that sweet spot!

But if you’re still having trouble figuring out what that specific number is, here are 3 different ways you can be pricing your services:

Hour pricing ⏰

Hourly pricing means that you are billing the client at an hourly rate for your work. While this might seem like a good option, because you are getting paid for the hours you are working no matter what, you end up getting penalized as your skills evolve and you grow as a designer -- just because you work fast, doesn't mean you should get paid less. Or you might not be as productive since time can be quite limiting.

Package pricing 💲

This is definitely the most common pricing structure/model - Packaged pricing means that you have set packages with specific deliverables and the price for the package will be determined. This is a great pricing structure, in my opinion - especially when you’re first starting out! You can offer a great package to your client, charge a larger amount and not be micromanaged for your time (it’s a win-win)

Value-Based pricing 👏🏽

This is the pricing model all designers should move into eventually! Basically, value based pricing is a fixed fee for a project, based on the value of the outcome to the client’s business. Think of it like - if the project was successful, how much would this company make on it.

Any pricing structure can benefit your brand - And you might find yourself using all 3 at different points of your business journey!

Your business will grow more than ever within the first year of starting, don’t limit yourself to one-way of doing something because that's the way you initially started!

Your offer is confusing your audience 🤭

Want to know why?

It’s unclear.

Think about the first place you go for inspiration when you’re just starting to build out your offers: good ol’ Google.

And I get it.

It’s one thing to envision the offer in your head - you know how you can help your clients. It’s another thing to put the words onto paper describing what it is that you do.

So you search online for some inspiration or guidance to better help create your offers.

This will often lead to getting caught up in sales page do’s and don’t and trying to incorporate buzz words that everyone’s using into your copy. But this ultimately ends up making it more confusing for your potential clients.

As the service provider...

👏🏽 YOU specialize in what you do.
👏🏽 YOU know the importance of what you offer.
👏🏽 YOU know all the ins and outs.
👏🏽 YOU know the industry terms.
👏🏽 YOU know everything involved in your process.

This is the entire reason someone would be hiring you - because they DON’T know these things.

They’re literally searching for someone to help them in this area because they struggle.

So when you make the content confusing, with jargon and bold statements that don’t necessarily apply, you’re actually losing your audience’s attention.

YOU NEED TO BE CLEAR ON 5 THINGS:

1️⃣ What do you offer (in plain language)
2️⃣ Who do you serve/help (who exactly is this for)
3️⃣ What problem do you solve
4️⃣ What outcome/solution will someone get
5️⃣ How will it make them feel when they are done working with you

You don’t need fancy buzz words to sell. Simply articulate your offer in a way that relates to your audience. Make them feel seen and heard.

Your content isn’t standing out 😬

It’s not because your content isn’t any good - it’s because you’re trying to serve everybody!

Niching down is a crazy important step in drawing in those dream clients.

Let me explain why..

When you’re creating content for “everyone” you’re actually reaching no one.

Each and every one of us has our own pain points. The issues that arises in my business are very different from the issues a health coach would face, for example.

If your messaging is too broad, it’s not going to stick in your ideal client’s mind.

You want them to feel seen and heard by you.

That you know exactly what they’re struggling with and you can help them with that pain point.

This is why it’s so important to niche down.

You need to create your content with your ideal client in mind, as if you’re speaking to a specific person.

When you do this, they will read your content and think, “oh wow, she totally gets me. This is exactly what I’m struggling with right now!” 🙏🏽

They’ll feel seen and heard by you, making them much more likely to take you up on your offer.

Your content needs to not only align with them, but also show up in a way that’s relatable to the services you offer that help them specifically.

Are you scared to show your face on Instagram? 🧐

I get it, it can be intimidating at first to show up in this way on social media. It’s vulnerable!

Often, these fears stem from limiting beliefs you may not even realize you have. Fear of rejection, or judgement from others. There’s a whole bunch of limiting beliefs you may have that are holding you back in your business.

If showing your face, specifically, is something that scares you, definitely focus on working through that. Overcoming mindset blocks like this is essential in bringing your business to the next level. Showing the face behind the brand is so important in connecting with your audience on a deeper level.

Here’s why: 👇🏽

➕ It humanizes your brand.
Show your audience that there’s a real person behind the brand and that you’re not just a robot posting content for them to consume. This will naturally create a deeper connection with your audience.

➕ People buy from people.
Your audience is much more likely to buy from you when they feel like they know you. Showing your face regularly is a super easy way to accomplish that.

➕ It creates a trusting community.
When your audience sees you as a human being - just like them - they begin to trust you more on a subconscious level. They get to see you as you are, expertise and all.

➕ You become relatable to your audience.
Tying back to the whole idea that people buy from people - showing your face makes you more relatable to your audience. They see that you, too, are a person with gifts and talents to share.

➕ It personalizes the experience of buying from or working with you.
Showing up helps paint a clearer picture for your future clients. They’ll know exactly what they’re getting when working with you, because you’re already sharing it! This way, there are no surprises when you start working together.
