The song that comes to my mind is “Count your Blessings One by One and see what the Lord has done.” I am truly thankful for my family and friends, near and far. I have had an incredible journey the past 18 years of producing and publishing Draft Horse Connection magazine. The folks I have met all across Canada, each and every one of you have enriched and blessed my life in ways you will never know
. I have had the privilege of exploring this beautiful country that we live in from coast to coast all because of you my subscribers and my friends. Now I am starting another journey, which is going to be the most difficult one facing me. So far on this journey I have found inner strength that I didn't know I had. I have been so blessed and surrounded my many guardian angels. I am very sad to say I will no longer continue publishing Draft Horse Connection magazine. The magazine has been a passion for me to preserve our Canadian Heritage through our older teamster’s stories and as well I have been very dedicated in helping beginner teamsters find mentors and providing resources. I have researched many ideas on how to keep the Living Tradition of Canadian Horse Farming and Logging Alive through another publication. Rare Breeds Canada publishes a magazine called Genesis. I feel this organization is a very compatible group who are keen on saving heritage farming practices. This process will take some time to finalize the details. Draft Horse Connection magazine would cease to exist. Draft Horse Connection subscribers have become Rare Breeds Canada members. Subscriber payments have been transferred to RBC. At this time RBC will be responsible for collecting membership fees, and assume responsibilities of my advertisers. The Genesis magazine will continue to have stories/articles, advertisers similar to Draft Horse Connection magazine so please keep sending us your stories/articles and photographs. The name, Draft Horse Connection will remain the property of Ruth Freeman, as all our DVDs are copyright under this name. DVDs will still be sold by Ruth Freeman. Draft Horse Connection’s website is still up and running selling DVDs, fact sheets, back issue but there will no longer be a Draft Horse Connection magazine. Rare Breeds Canada will have membership forms available on their website for you to join. All paid subscribers of Draft Horse Connection to this point have been transferred to Rare Breeds Canada and you will start to receive their magazine Genesis. This is a sad farewell to my friends, family, readers, subscribers and advertisers. As my health improves I am writing and submitting stories and photographs to keep our living tradition of Canadian Horse Farming and Logging alive to be printed in Genesis. I still have a deep dream to own another draft horse again to drive on my pioneer wagon and single sleigh. The saying I have heard over and over again is “The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a woman or man”. This statement means more to me that ever now!
