It’s 5 pm on a Thursday at Meo, Chinatown’s newest cocktail bar. Though the doors just opened, the place had immediately started to fill. It’s sunny outside, but you’d never know it in the low light of the room themed after a 1970s love-motel.

What a great experience attending the Canadian screening of Common Ground and learning more about Maker's Mark’s commitment to regenerative farming and its pledge to source 100% of its grain from Regenified Certified farms by 2025.

Common Ground explores our current farm system and profiles a hopeful movement of farmers who are using regenerative models of agriculture that could balance the climate, save our health, and stabilize the economy. This impactful documentary features A-list names, like Rosario Dawson, Jason Momoa, Donald Glover, and Ian Somerhalder.

Picture Ranch, the film studio behind the film, partnered with major brands like Maker's Mark and Conservation Resources to announce the "100 Million Acres Initiative" which will build a coalition of businesses that have pledged to transform at least 10% of their crops, ranches, and supply chains to certified regenerative farming. Go on the Japanese Whisky Pilgrimage to trace the history and discover the 90-year legacy of Nikka Whisky across the world with Charlene Rooke 🌏

1. Start at the home base in Osaka, where 22-year-old Masataka Taketsuru, who came from a sake-brewing family in the Hiroshima region, studied fermentation in Osaka and worked for an Osaka industrial-alcohol-producing company called Settsu Shuzo.

2. Visit Longmorn in Speyside, Bo’ness in Falkirk and Hazelburn in Campbeltown, where Taketsuru apprenticed after studying at the University of Glasgow and the city’s Royal Technical College.

3. Return to Japan, where in 1923 Taketsuru joined the company that would eventually become Suntory and later founded the Dai Nippon Kaju (“great Japanese fruit juice”) company in 1934, which would eventually inspire the name for Nikka (“NIppon KAju”).

The summer is buzzing at the Fairmont Waterfront ☀️🐝

The Garden Dinner Series invites you to savour the seasonal flavours with a unique culinary experience, set amidst the lush greenery of Fairmont Waterfront's rooftop garden. The experience begins with an interactive cocktail reception in the rooftop garden, featuring the hotel’s exclusive gin line made in partnership with Wayward Distillers, canapes and hands-on garden and bee tours by the resident head gardener Carissa Kasper and chief beekeeper, Julia Common. The flavours of summer in British Columbia are then brought to the table in a multi-course dinner by ARC executive chef, Adam Middleton, with wine pairings from some of the Okanagan’s top wine producers.

There are only three evenings this summer that the Garden Dinner series are available on: Thursday, June 20, Thursday, July 18, and Thursday, August 22. Check out the Fairmont Waterfront page for more details 🌻
